Poll: Flooring

Now that I'm starting to think about house things, I was just curious if most people prefer carpeting or hardwood floors and why?

Re: Poll: Flooring

  • I always prefer carpeting. I like to walk around barefoot and prefer the soft carpet below my feet.

  • I have cats, so I prefer wood floors for ease of cleaning puke and hair. :-)  I also like the way hardwood looks more than carpet.  But carpet is more fun to walk on, so my idea is hardwood with an area rug.

  • We are doing carpets in the bedrooms upstairs, because like you all, I like to have something warm and soft under my foot when I wake up. We are doing tiles in the kitchen and bathrooms, for easier cleaning and just in case of flooding and HW floors in LR, DR and hallways coz DH thinks it looks fancy and I guess it would be easier to clean.

  • HW floors all the way.  They look more modern and sleek and are easier to clean.  If you spill coffee on HW floors, it's no big deal.  But spill coffee on carpet?

  • Lawby, that's what we have too - carpet in the bedrooms upstairs, hardwood in hallway, LR and DR, and tile in the kitchen (which is OLD and needs to be replaced).  We have a small area rug in the LR.

  • I'm with Danielle...when you have pets, HW flooring is always the way to go. I think they are nicer looking and easier to clean. Carpeting is nice until the spills and wearing away starts. =/

  • I like HW floors, but with area rugs in places that having something underfoot is nice (near bed, couch, etc.)
  • I'm not a big fan of carpeting at all, we've always had hw floors growing up so that may have something to do with it. But the cleaning part is also a big reason. We have hardwood everywhere and area rugs in the LR and Sasha's room. We've been thinking of getting smaller area rugs for either side of the bed in our BR too.
  • We have wall to wall Berber carpet in our bedroom, but hardwood and area rugs in the rest of the house.  Our stairs have a carpet runner.
  • Carpet for the bedroom. I like to have that cushion when I'm barefoot. But hardwood in the rest of the house. I love the look and it's easy to clean

  • I feel like such an outcast, I really can't stand HW floors.  You all raised some good points about about the HW though, I can definitely see why it would be better in some cases.

  • Between the cats and the baby HW is the way to go for us. Unfortunatley, our apartment comes carpeted and it looks like krappp! When we get our own place we will carpet the bedrooms and do HW through the rest. I wouldn't mind HW in all rooms and areas in the bedrooms, but dh likes carpet in the bedrooms.

I would love radiant heat floors!
