How did you go about starting a cooking blog? I'd like to start one, but have NO clue where to start! Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.
Re: **enkeli224**
Hey there
Honestly? 3 weeks before our wedding in 2007, my DH told me I HAD to choose a hobby, because with no wedding to plan I was going to be depressed. LOL
So I'd been reading the What's Cooking board here and decided "I can do that"
So I asked them which format was friendliest -- they told me Blogger, and they're probably right, but I've sinced moved to Wordpress -- and I set up an account and started cooking.
Everytime I cooked something new, I took pictures of it and posted it. Honestly, at the beginning it was JUST a hobby...kind of an online cookbook where I kept everything.
But then people started reading it, so I put it in my siggy, and later on I added my weekly menu (because I know I'm always looking for other people's menus to find new things) and it spread out from there!
I'm not sure if that helps or not -- do you have any specific questions?
Really it's just getting a blog account someplace, creating a quick site, and then start taking pictures of your food LOL
Highly reccommend you make every effort to photograph your recipes...most of the time I won't make a recipe unless I can see it first.
Even a BAD picture is better than nothing
As far as design, I just use one of Wordpress's free templates. I had a friend's sister (who is a graphic designer) make me some custom headers, but that's the only thing custom about my site. There are a lot of reccs for people who will charge to create a fancy food blog for you, but I don't think you need to go that far when you're just starting out.
I didn't use anything that wasn't free on blogger for the first year and a half of my blog.
Just pick one of the wordpress templates that appeals to you, then you can tweak it later
Take some time to go through the widgets offered by wordpress. It can give you ingredient lists, calendars, how many hits you've had on your site, etc. -- that's the most fun part!
No problem! Don't hesitate to ask.
I can't open Wordpress at work anymore -- boooo!!! -- but if you have specific questions I can take a look at it in the evening when I get home
