I'm going ziplining!

So, it looks like the Alaska cruise is not in the cards for us this summer - Joe has too many weekends either traveling or entertaining out of town guests and we just didn't have a solid block of time to get away.  But I was insistent on going ziplining this summer because we are going to start TTC in the fall and I need to zipline before I get ku'd.Stick out tongue

So, we are going the Berkshires next weekend, staying at a little B&B, and going ziplining and whitewater rafting through a company called Zoar Outdoor.

It's not Alaska, but it will work for now!

Has anyone ever ziplined before? Will I freak out? I'm not scared of heights, but I am worried that after all my talk about how I need to zipline, I'll get up there and panic!

I've also never rafted.  The tour we are going on has class II and III rapids.  Joe wanted to do something harder but all the tours said level IV was for intermediate/advanced, and since I've never done it before I didn't think I fell into that category.

Re: I'm going ziplining!

  • No idea what ziplining is.

But just wanted to say I bow at your feet for being so brave to do those activities. Wish I was more fearless. Have fun!!

  • that sounds like so much fun!!! I'm excited for you!! haha. I could never do ziplines - well, i don't think i could. I'm scared of heights but love rollercoasters...hard to say. Just remember you probably will get a little scared, but just breathe and go - you'll be so glad you did, even if you scream your head off the whole way!!

I've been really wanting to take a 'do nothing' vacation somewhere beachy. but, we have a lot of travel coming up in the next couple months, so I'm not sure if that will happen for us.

  • Oh, you'll have a great time.  I am afraid of heights, but I think I could do ziplining.  They harness you in. From my friends who have done it, they say it's a very nice feeling without it being too scary.  KWIM? I think this will be a good alternative to Alaska. Would love to hear more about where you are staying and your other plans.

P.S. When I was little my mom's friend had a sauna on a hill and then a zipline down to the pond at the bottom of the hill.  So much fun!

  • Ziplining is a blast! and so is rafting.  You're gonna have a great time Danielle.

On a side note, yaaay! it sounds like Joe has become a little more comfortable with the whole TTC thing.  I know you had posted a while ago that he wasn't quite ready yet.

  • Lawby - this is ziplining: http://www.deerfieldzipline.com/

That is the company we are going with for the rafting too.  (http://www.zoaroutdoor.com/whitewaterrafting.htm - we are doing the Zoar Gap ride).

    We are staying here: http://www.westwindsinn.com/

Nova - yes, Joe is warming up to the idea of starting TTC.  At least, now when I say things like "I want to do x,y and z before we start TTC in the fall" he doesn't run from the room screaming.  Wink  And he said he's been talking to a friend of his with a three year old a lot about what it's like to have a child, and how it changes things.  Now when I talk about babies, he just says things like "it's going to be a HUGE change, you know" and not "DON'T TALK ABOUT BABIES!"  So, I think when October rolls around he should be ready. Big Smile

  • That B&B looks great.  Greenfield is very pretty.  My cousin lives there.  Let me know if you want any recommendations for things to do in the area, etc.  I am quite familiar with that part of Mass.
  • Oh that's ziplining. I think a tour company opened up some activities similar to that on my island. My cousin did it and said it was amazing!! I am still too coward to try it though. Embarrassed

Your vacation plans sound really amazing!!

Ooh and it looks like a few of us here are thinking about TTC or TTC'g...Cool! Your hubby and I are in the same stage. I know I will be a good mother but I know our lives will change and I am kinda still scared about all the changes, and I am a bit selfish and still want it to just be DH and I for a lil while longer but we ain't getting any younger...so we better buckle up.

  • It's great! DH and I went Alaska and had so much fun! DH was scared at first, but he had more fun than anybody else. You're harnessed in very well, and they have lots of precaution measures so you'll be safe!
  • Have fun!  I LOVE zip lining.  DH, not so much?

  • Ooh, you're going to have such fun! We did ziplining in Mexico and it was fantastic. And I'm scared of roller coasters, like won't-go-if-you-pay-me scared. I was a little hesitant to take that step off the cliff, but once I did it was great! And your B&B looks so nice too.

And yay on Joe coming around with the TTC stuff, I'm so happy for you guys!

  • You will enjoy it. I have never been in the great outdoors but I did do a ropes course with one and it was a blast. Have fun!
  • Awesome!! I'm soo jealous....DH and I are huge outdoorsy people. We go skydiving but I've never been ziplinning. I'd love to do it...have fun and I can't wait to hear all about it.

  • Thanks for all the reassuring, guys. I'm fairly confident that I won't have a panic attack now!  I will report back and let you know how it goes (it's not till next weekend).
