Random question/observation...

DH and I were at Lowe's the other day and as we were walking down an aisle a man comes toward us from the other side with a HUGE dog...I think it's called a Mastiff or something similar. He was really sweet and gentle (I petted him when he came near us :o) ) but it just seemed odd since he wasn't a service dog or in training or anything. The man was just walking through the store shopping and acted like it wasn't a big deal that he had his dog with him. During the rest of our wandering around the store I saw another man walking a little white dog and two other people with smaller dog in their carts.?

Is Lowe's pet friendly (this seems weird because of all the things a dog could get into in a home improvement store!) or do these people just like to take their dogs everywhere??

Re: Random question/observation...

  • On the Pets board, I have read that some Lowes are accepting of pets, but you have to check with the individual store.  Apparently it is common, although I wouldn't have thought of it either.

  • My husband works at Lowes at the West York store and I noticed dogs in there too, so I asked him if they 'allow' that and he said yes! I guess because they have cement floors...I'm not sure and he wasn't too sure either. He just knows they permit it.

  • I've read that some Lowes stores are pet-friendly.  I don't think it's true for the one nearest to us, because I've never seen any dogs there.  If they did, I would definitely bring Haley... and shop at Lowes more than HD.

Yes, I am that person that wishes it were socially acceptable to my dog with me to more places.

  • Some people think they can take their dogs anywhere. We used to have people come in with them at Old Navy but they always were small and put them in a cart. We never said anything because they never caused trouble and we didn't want them getting stuck out in a car by themselves.
  • on a side note, i was at that fish place with eli which is pet friendly, and saw a lady carrying around a huge rabbit while looking at fish, and then a lady pushing her bird around in a cart.  not your typical pets you'd go out on a drive with, haha.
  • I just thought it was funny because I've seen people with service dogs (in training) and people with little dogs in carts...never a large dog like the one we saw! I did check on the Lowe's website to see if they had anything about a pet policy and couldn't find anything. I'm sure that once I tell DH he'll want to take our dog there! I wonder if they'll start to put little doggie clean up stations in case there is an accident!

I will admit that my DH gets annoyed when there is a sign on the door that says no pets and he sees people walking around with dogs in their carts. I think it makes him want to bring our dog to stores to see if anyone says anything to him!

    ummm that is odd

  • The Lowes in East York is pet friendly. We don't take our dogs there though, although we did see an adorable rotti there once.

  • I just verified the Lowes in Lancaster allows dogs on leash as well. Dh's cousin works there and he confirmed it.

  • I was wondering about this!  I had seen people with their dogs at the W. York Lowe's and they didn't appear to be service dogs.  Good to know although we have no reason to bring our dog there!

  • I'm going to have to find out if the Lowes near me allows dogs.  I think it would be another great opportunity for socialization.
