So I was at the doc's this week and I was dealing with a new "team" member as my usual doc is on holidays. Not to be critical, she is a really nice person, but a little scattered (IMO). Anyway, we do the usual BP/weight stuff and when it comes to measuring me she indicates that I'm measuring 3 weeks ahead of schedule!
I have always been measuring 5 or so days ahead when we go for u/s and measurements, but 3 weeks?! That's a little high, but I also try to tell her that I *think* she is starting too low for the measurement. She brushes me off, cites her concern about this and about my swollen feet (she thinks it's too early to be retaining that much water?) and orders an u/s and for me to be back in week...
Has anyone else measured ahead? Does it really mean anything? I honestly think that she measured wrong, but am not going to argue if she is concerned... just looking to see if anyone has had any experiences like this
Re: Measuring ahead...
I can't remember them telling me any specific information about me measuring ahead or behind - my doc is reticent to give that kind of information so that we don't get freaked out. He says every woman is different. I hope that helps...
That?s what you get for hanging around Rachel and her 10lbs babies
Joking, joking!!
I?m sure it?s nothing to worry about. I would only take it more seriously after MY Dr. sees me again and if MY Dr. says the same thing.
GL!
That's a great analogy, and it's my train of thought too. I would rather wait for my doc but she's gone til mid sept and I have 2 more regular appointments so I'll just have an u/s done this weekend (my friend is a tech) so that we can move on with it. Fortunately it's not something to worry about for all I know the baby will slow in growth for the next few weeks and bring me back to even... I'm sure she's just being over-concerned.
Personally I don't think the fundal height is really all that accurate, with J I was measuring a couple of weeks ahead and he only 6lbs 13 oz (at 37 weeks). At my last appointment I was measuring 3 weeks ahead but when I went for my ultrasound baby was measuring perfectly to the dayn and at around 6lbs. I wouldn't worry about it too much especially since you weren't seeing your regular doctor.
I totally agree.
My U/S and fundal heights have all been measuring 2-3 weeks ahead for the past 10 weeks or so. Dr. is not concerned and won't be changing my EDD at all. Some people just measure bigger.
If it is just the fundal measurement that she is using I wouldn't put too much stock in it. The u/s measurement will be a little bit more accurate. Although those will be off as well.
I measured bang on with the fundal measurements until I was abotu 36w then I started to measure a bit behind (which is normal as the baby drops lower). The u/s I had at 41w showed that I was measuring 2w behind based on Ben's size which makes no sense considering he was 8lbs8oz.
I wouldn't worry too much about it. Hopefully they will give you the actual measurements (head etc) when you go for your u/s.
whenever I had a different doc measure me, I was also so different from my own doc's measurements. totally normal. and when the fundal height showed that I hadn't changed in 4 weeks, I was ordered an U/S... and everything was just fine. that was at 36 weeks. they estimated the Jeremy was 7lbs - definitely wrong considering less than 4 weeks later he was over 10.
and for both kids I always measured ahead. it could just be the positioning... or... dum dum dummmmmm... a big baby.
HEY - I will hear nothing of the sort! Keep the big baby talk away from my baby
