Italian Restaurant for Anniversary

DH and I will be celebrating our first anniversary at Disney and we would like to leave the parks (and insane expensive prices for just ok food) for our anniversary meal.  Since we went to Italy for our honeymoon, we would really like a romantic Italian restaurant.  I've done numerous searches online and cannot find a place that is rated well for food and is romantic and that is open on Sunday.

So please give your opinion on what would be the best Italian restaurant in Orlando for our anniversary dinner.  Our only stipulation is that it is not a chain place like Maggiano's or Carrabbas.

 Thanks!

Re: Italian Restaurant for Anniversary

  • I love Timpanos. It's located on restaurant row in Dr. Phillips and it should be open on Sunday.
    Hawaii
  • Sorry, I don't have any place to recommend (still kinda new down here!), but I just wanted to wish you a happy anniversary!!

Looking forward to seeing the Italian recs!

  • I haven't been there yet, but I've heard there's an Il Mulino at the Swan & Dolphin Resort on Disney property. I don't know anyone who's been to the Orlando one, but I've heard raves about the one in Vegas, and have been wanting to try it.

My favorite local spot is Lido's near downtown Orlando, but it's really very casual (not a fancy, special-occasion spot) and kind of a big drive from the parks.

I think they just opened a new Italian restaurant at Downtown Disney, but I don't know if it's nice or not.

I agree that Timpano's might be a good option. I haven't been there, but I like its sister restaurant, Samba Room.

Hope this helps a little. Sorry I can't think of any more specific recommendations!

  • I don't know how far you are willing to travel, but DH and I always go to Panullo's in Winter Park (on Park Ave) for Valentine's Day. Great food, nice atmosphere, and it was where we had our first date on Valentine's day 2003. Park Ave has a bunch of little shops and a nice park that would be nice to stroll around after dinner.

Here is the website if you are interested: http://www.pannullos.com/

I have also heard Rocco's in College Park is good, but haven't been yet. I am sure someone on this board has been and can let you know if it is good or not.

    Have fun!

  • Panullo's is one of our favorite restaurants too. The food is amazing!
  • I love Lido's too, but it's definitaley not fancy for an anniversary dinner. I think the fanciest would be Timpano's....I like Panullo's, but I've only eaten there for lunch never dinner so I don't really know how the evening ombiance is. if you went to Panullo's you could take a trip over to the Wine Room after dinner which is always a fun experience.

I know your trying to get away from the parks, but I have eaten at tutto italia which is the newest restaurant revamp at Epcot (just opened last year). The food is good, and its average Disney prices.

  • Timpano's is AMAZING. I recommend reservations. Also try Antonio's on Sand Lake. It's across the street from Timpano's and is yum, yum.
  • I am definitely a fan of Panullo's and as the other poster mentioned, Park Avenue (in Winter Park, about 1/2 hour north of Disney) is a fun, romantic area.  Shops on one side, park on the other ... nice for strolling... lots of places to get a drink or ice cream before/after dinner.

Also in College Park (just outside of downtown Orlando) is Nonna's Trattoria which is really yummy, here's the link:

But I think my favorite is Gargi's which is on Lake Ivanhoe, just north of downtown.  Here's their link:

Hope this helps and happy anniversary!!

  • I also recommend Gargi's on Lake Ivanhoe. ?The food is fantastic & the atmosphere is wonderful. ?I would definitely recommend reservations. ?Have a great anniversary!
  • Husband and I went to Timpano's for the first time Saturday night on a whim. ?We didn't have reservations and got there around 7:30. ?We had no problem getting a table.

?It exceeded expectations. ?It was absolutely delicious and the service was great too. ?I would highly recommend it.

  • I totally forgot about Gargi's! If I was in your place I would do Gargi's--since it's not a chain and unless your in Orlando again you will never get to eat there! The food there is amazing!
  • Maggiano's Little Italy on International Drive in Orlando is great! The food is amazing and the service is fantastic.
