Hi, ladies.
We just moved to the Frisco area last year and I'm trying to find new things to do and ways to get involved. I was wondering if any of you are in a book club or do volunteer work that you could share with me?
I've signed up for a a class at the local comm.college so I'm excited about that.
I guess I'm going a little stir crazy just sitting at home.
Re: I need a hobby...
I volunteer as a big sister. I have been doing it for 3 years, and love it. If you find a book club in frisco, let me know, I would be interested in that as well.
Good Luck
I am not a member but is there a Junior League that is local?
Also, I am in a running club called Dallas Athletes if you like something active.
My DH is a mason and they do a lot of charity work with the Scottish Rite Hospital as well.
Shandars- I actually was a Big Sister prior to our move- I might wait until school starts and contact them again to perhaps tutor. I know they have the option to do a school program.
And I'll keep my eyes out for a book club and let you know.
Thanks for all the suggestions, ladies.
I moved to Fort Worth in March and was in the same boat
I volunteer at Tarrant County Interfaith AIDS Alliance, but you can find a good listing of volunteer opportunities at the Volunteer Center of North Texas' website - http://www.volunteernorthtexas.org/
I don't know if you've heard about www.meetup.com, but it's a GREAT way to meet people while doing fun things - there are lots of groups (and you can also start your own) for just about anything you're interested in. I joined a book club I was interested in and try to go to the 'New in Town' events when I can.
I also contacted local theatres in downtown FW and volunteered to be an usher.
Good luck finding things to do!
There is a Jr League of Plano. Also Frisco Women's League is another similar organization.
If you're a runner, Luke's Locker has a running group in the area too. Visit the store for more info.
Good luck. Hope you like Frisco!
Thank you ladies for the suggestions- I can't wait to get started!
