Rogers subscribers help me figure this out....

we have Rogers HDTV, highspeed internet, and 2 cell phones. ?No landlines.

We are thinking of canceling our cable altogether, in favour of movies and YouTube clips (which we prefer). ?We have a computer hooked up to the TV, and a great local rental shop.

If we cancel the TV, how much more will our internet bill be? ?(Because we won't be paying for TV service at all, and it's cable internet). ?Can we even do that?

We can't get Sympatico or any other internet services because we don't have a landline.

I would call rogers to get this information, but you know that any call to rogers will last at least 80 minutes. ??

Re: Rogers subscribers help me figure this out....

  • I can't answer the Rogers question, but you could still get sympatico without a phone line.  Its called dry loop internet...they basically set you up with a dummy phone number so your computer can still dial out to the server.  To get more info, you have to call sympatico and specifically ask for the dry loop department.

I didn't know if we could do that.?

  • I was going to say the same things about the fake number line too, I know rogers can do that. Your internet shouldn't increase that much - any discounts you're getting for bundling would be removed, but I don't see any other reason why the cost would increase..
  • you dont need to have cable with rogers to have internet. it will cost you the same as it does now minus any savings you were getting for having 3 services with them.
  • We don't pay for cable TV, just internet.. Regular high speed, not the low or super speed one (the one in the middle).

I think it's like $56/month but don't quote me on that.... that bill comes in DH's name and I usually don't look at it very carefully. If I remember correctly, if you don't have cable TV with Rogers, it is $10 nore per month for the Internet. Luckily we still get free regular cable TV (2 years later!!!!) haha... they just haven't bother to add the filter yet.

  • I dont have roger's cable, (i have bell) and we pay $45 for the second from the top high speed internet.

My parents have tv and internet from rogers and cancelled their tv and recieved free cable from them for 3 months before my father called and said hey.. I am still getting tv..(not being charged for it{which pissed my mother off}) and so they added the filter!

DH and I have found the best tiem to call rogers is between 10-12 and 2-3pm

  • I don't think they charge extra to have internet but not cable with them. We have Rogers internet and 2 cells phones and get a discount for having 3 services, but we don't have cable (it's included in the condo fees in our building), and there isn't an extra charge. It's been like that for over 3 years now. Rogers sent me a letter recently to say that the Bundles we had signed up for had changed, but it's still a 5% discount for 2 services, 10% for 3 and 15% for 4, I think.
