How long is too long? VENT

BIL (DH's brother) and SIL are building a new house that will be ready very soon (but not soon enough IMO) and they have been renting since their last house sold in October. They have a lot of their big stuff in a storage unit but we've become their second storage unit. Which I was totally fine with but now I'm getting sick of it and I want their stuff OUT. It started 4 months ago when the people who were moving their Granite slabs to their storage unit (they got a great deal but it needed to be picked up well before they were ready for it) said there wasn't enough room. Fine, we could still park our car in there. Then they called that they needed a place to put their vanities (they've been ordering things through Direct Buy so not everything has come at once). Fine, they should be able to fit on the side so we can still use our garage. Nope, they are too big. We had to stop parking our car in there. Since then there has been tons of their stuff delivered to our house. In the last month it's slowly been moving out to the point that there is only the washer and dryer and some other things that came with their different deliveries. (Wood A-frame to hold up shower doors, etc).

I "thought" that he was going to pick up the last of it today. I organized it all so that he could just pick it up and go and so I could at least sweep my garage. We are having people over tomorrow and I wanted to finally be able to park my car in my garage again or at least have it clean. Turns out he didn't pick it up today.

We're not charging them for using our garage and have tried to be really good about it. At least it's not winter and we have to have our cars outside. BIL is going to help us with a project we have but I've been so busy helping them at their house (tiling) that we haven't even gotten the stuff prelimarily done for our project. I feel like I'm being generous to a fault here and have had it.

  • i would probably be annoyed too but it sounds like there is a light at then end of the tunnel. hopefully it will all be out soon. did he say when he was coming to get the final stuff? if not i would ask and say why (you'd like your garage back).
  • In my opinion, if you didn't put a timeline on things when they asked you the first time, then you can't put a timeline on things now.

  • While we were building, we stored a termendous amount of stuff in my parent's house/yard/garage. When construction started slowing down and it ended up there 6 loooong months longer than it was intended to, I felt bad...but where was it supposed to go?! lol My parents certainly weren't "angry" that it was there, but they sure were glad to see it all go. It sounds like your heart was in a good place, but the terms of the storage situation sound really loose, and undefined. In the end, no one held a gun to your head, you could have said no.
