Timeframe for newspaper wedding announcement?

Is almost 4 months after the wedding to late to put the wedding announcement in the newspaper?  The MIL asked this weekend when I was going to do this. I wasn't planning on doing it but I guess I am now!

Re: Timeframe for newspaper wedding announcement?

  • Nah - I've see announcements in our paper for weddings that were over a year ago.
  • I've also seen announcements from at least a year ago.

If you weren't planning on doing it, then don't.  MIL isn't allowed to tell you how to spend (or waste) your money, and those announcements typically aren't free.

If she wants to do it, let her knock herself out ... on her dime!

  • My mom really wanted to do the wedding announcement, so I sent her a picture and told her to go for it!  It doesn't matter when you were married though.  Give you MIL a picture and let her do the leg work!
  • Our local paper wants them no later than three months, though they'll technically take them later.
  • The general "rule" is 2-3 months, but really, if you want one, or if you just want to pacify you MIL, they won't say no.
  • I think you're fine.  I've seen them in the paper 6 months to a year after some weddings.

This is pretty typical where I live.  We haven't sent our's in yet, but we will.  They're free to submit to our local paper, so might as well!
  • I actually just submitted ours this week. As pp's have said, I've seen them out as far as 1 year. I actually forgot about it until this week! Lol!
  • I've heard you should do it within the first 6 months, but like other said I have seen them up to a year after.
  • Definitely not too late!  I've seen them go in a year later.  We won't get ours in until we get our CD from the photographer, which will hopefully happen next week.
  • I hope it's not too late... I am still waiting on my professional pictures.  We saw a preview while on our honeymoon.  It's been 3 months and we still don't have the pics!  Their contract said they have 12 weeks... well that deadline passed this past Saturday.  Ours will be in whenever we receive the pics if we decide to put one in the paper.  I was also concerned it would be too late.
