Charleston in October

Hey ladies, just popping in from the NH boards!  H and I have been to the Charleston area a couple of times, now (ILs have a condo in Mt. Pleasant) and absolutely love it.  I'm in the midst of planning our anniversary trip in Oct and am wondering if there are any special events or celebrations we should be looking for that time of year.  I did see a picture of the corn maze at Boone Plantation - I have a feeling I'd get lost for good in that thing!  Any recommendations, fall related or otherwise?  TIA!

Re: Charleston in October

  • i don't know anything of right now, but I have a huge list of events at work for the remainder of the year.. I will check back in tomorrow and let you know if I can find anything that may be of interest.

  • okay, here is what i have come up with so far...

    Charleston Corn Maize October 1-30 {Johns Island}

    French Quarter Art Walk October 2 {Downtown}

    Salsa Under the Stars October 9 {Folly Beach}

    The Taste of Charleston October 9-11 {Mt. Pleasant}

    Carolina Coastal Fair October-November {not positive where that is}

     Hope that helps!

  • I love it here in October!  Most of the time the weather is perfect, but there is always a chance of a tropical store or hurricane.

    I can't think of anything in particular you would want to check out specific to that month.

    Boone Hall does have a lot of Halloween oriented activites - corn maze, hay ride, etc... I have gone a couple of times with my nieces and felt that it was mostly geared towards kids.  Keeping in mind that we did go during the day, so it might be more fun at night.

  • In response to Boone Hall for Halloween, it's very different at night. The hay ride is incredibly scary, with live people and chainsaws and you're in the opening. The walk thru scary house, is just as frightening, but with clowns following you.

    I had a blast almost wetting my pants, but it is very scary! I'm pretty sure I missed most of the walk thru because my eyes were closed and I was just following my husband holding his shirt.

  • You could also do the walking ghost tour downtown at night--the weather should be great for that by October :)
