Okay heres the deal..

I had the "talk" about delvery with my doc yesterday!  She has told me that she will not let me go past 37 weeks (which is sept 18th).  She highly highly doubts i will make it that far.  which is fine by me....as long as the girls are good to go! :-)  She did give me the option of c-section vs. vag.  now heres my delimma...If i go vag. my doc said even if the second one is breech she can and will deliver breech (i know most docs don't, but she does).  Which is good to know.  My biggest thing is i would LOVE to go vag. but i ABSOLUTELY do not want to do both vag and c/s, if the second decides shes in a postiton that just won't let her come out on her own.  Then if i decide c/s the bad part is, yes its surgery (OUCH), but it is then a controlled situation and the babies quickly come out one at a time. of course anything can change i could not have the choice, ,since i'm at high rish for pre-e, it could just come down to aa c/s and thats it......

So i know it is ultimately my decision, but I was curious, what would you guys do and why???  Thanks...and sorry its so long :-)

Re: ?? Opinions ??

  • I had a vag birth and I don't think I would change a thing.  I went naturally with no drugs (my water broke at 2, he was born at 4:18.)  It was a really short delivery, especially for a first.  I did need stiches and that was seriously the scariest thing because they did have to numb the area and the thought of a shot in the VAG while your legs are twitching is not a good feeling.  (I was literally shaking afterwards, which they said was completely normal, adrenaline overload).

Given your situation, I can't really comment too much because I only had one baby.  I can understand your hesitation both ways.  I would go into it, with your worst case scenario and rather be pleasently surprised if you got your best case.

From what I heard, some people don't have many complications with a C-Section and in the case of twins, it may be more beneficial for all those involved.  With a planned C-section you are in a more controlled environment versus an emergency section.

Overall, I think I am just as confused as you.

  • I am sure it's a tough decision.  I personally want to have a natural birth whenever my time comes mainly because of the recovery involved.  I would think that with twins I'd want to recover as quickly as possible because you are already going to be so busy and tired as it is.  I still understand the thinking and reasoning for a c/s.  I think I'd try naturally first though but be prepared for a c/s.

  • I had wanted to have a vaginal birth because of all the reasons you mentioned. But I knew since I was induced the chance of ending up with a c-section were pretty high. Well I ended up with a c-section. Now I consider myself a wuss when it comes to pain and those contractions I was having were unbarable (they were with pitocin though).

Knowing what a wuss I am with pain I have to say my c-section and recovery wasn't bad. At first the recovery was pretty bad but after I got home it got much better. But I know lots of other people have problems with their recovery.

Since there is the chance you might end up with both a vag and c-section delivery I would probably opt for the c-section. I can't imagine having to heal both ways and have to take care of 2 babies! Good luck making your decision.

Kristin was the first one I thought of while reading this, Shannon.  I understand all the reasons a vaginal birth is preferred.  Both now (recovery) as well as future (with future deliveries, if there are any).

But I agree with Kristin.  It's not like you've got just one baby in there and can hope she turns around.  You've got two babies and may end up in a tricky situation with one delivered and needing a C/S for the other.  Double ouch.

Then again, I'm kind of a control freak and the thought of it being planned out in advance fits that better than "We'll just let it ride and hope it all goes okay!" LOL (And I also have no kids and am not in your shoes at this moment.)

  • Until Logan turned breech (she was on the bottom) and I had no choice in the matter-I was given the same options as you. I was going to choose the vaginal route. For me I really wanted to go through a vaginal delivery and try to go med free as long as possible. I know that sounds crazy with twins and all. I knew that if I started med free and their was an issue they would have had to knock me out completely for the c/s. The choice ended up being out of my hands, and I had to have the c/s. For me it was very easy in surgery and the recovery was not bad at all. It is a hard choice to make though!
  • The idea of needing sitches in my girly bits scares the bejeezus out of me.  Personally, I'd choose the c-section, but I'm also prob the worst person to talk to about this...I'd be so scared of all of it, I'd ask if they could just leave the babies in.
Damn you Nest for screwing up my siggy!

  • Val, the getting stiches part wasn't bad because I couldn't feel a damn thing.  The numbing shot was a bit scary but the most god awful thing was having to use the bathroom the first time.  Oh, and have sex the first time too.  I was so f'ing worried about both things.
