Jen&Joe re: tankless water heater

hello, I hope all is well :)

I have one more question for you regarding the tankless water heater.

We are deciding between a model with a re-circulation pump, and one without. Basically the one with the pump keeps the water in the pipes warm, resulting in instant hot water (don't have to wait for the water to travel from the heater to the tap). It uses a bit more gas, but wastes less water. There is timer so you can set the pump to only operate certain times of the day.

I was wondering if you have a re-circ pump (instant hot water)? If you don't, do you miss it? I am trying to decide if it's worth the extra $3/month for the re-circ pump. We've decided to rent the unit instead of purchase because the pay-off period is greater than 12 years and we almost definitely won't be living in our house that long!

Re: Jen&Joe re: tankless water heater

  • We do not have one on our unit.

We do other things while we wait for the water to warm up (ie: brush teeth while waiting for hot water to wash face). I would say that to get hot water in our upstairs washroom it takes about 30seconds. Personally for us it isn't a big enough deal to want to have a recirculation pump on our unit. I would figure out if you need to have instant hot water and what the cost of the extra gas would be. If it works for you then go for it.
