Poll: Cost of wedding annoucement

How much do/did the papers cost for your wedding announcement?

Re: Poll: Cost of wedding annoucement

  • County I grew up in:  Free (includes photos and online)

County H grew up in (and the one we live in):  $150 is the minimum -we decided it was not worth the money.

College Parent/Alum magazine:  Free (we also sent in some photos)

H's high school Parent/Alum magazine:  Free (we also sent in photos)

We sent photos in to the Alum magazines because several of H's b-party was from his high school and several of my b-party was from our college.

  • We have a fairly large local paper - the cost for a celebration ad is $30 per inch of space.

DH and I did not have an engagement or wedding announcement in our paper - we didn't want one.

I know the price from when my brother and I put up an ad for our parents' 25th anniversary announcement.

  • $90 in Milwaukee (town I grew up in)

$99 for the Chicago Sun Times

  • Ours was $45 to put in our local paper. We would have had to pay an extra 30 but MIL has a subscription to paper. We paid 20 for it to be in color and 25 for extra words.... I didnt really want one and I thought that if you put engagement announcement in paper then you didnt have to put wedding announcement, but we did it anyways....

  • Both parent's local papers: Free

Our city local paper: $260 (I don't know what the size of it was but it sure wasn't that big - I thought it was ridiculously expensive and we wouldn't have done it excpet that MIL wanted it and so she paid for it!)

  • My hometown (and where our parents are--DH's hometown doesn't have a paper):  Free, includes online posting also

    Where we live:  $45
I plan on submitting one for our parent's local paper once we have pictures.  Since it's free it's not an added cost and it's just something else for the scrapbook.
  • Ours was $40.00 for unlimited space in the announcement and 30 days on their website.

  • Ours is free and it includes the basics: name, parents and grandparents, ceremony and reception info, wedding party, bridal attire, cakes, city of residence. This also includes a picture.

If you choose to include more (decorations, food, BM dress description, tux descriptions, small details of the ceremony and reception, honeymoon info, etc), it's about $50.

    We chose the free one.

  • Ours was over 100 which I thought was ridiculous so we didn't do one even though I wanted to.

  • Our home city paper was free and our small town paper is also free.  I think the big city paper near us charges money but I am not sure how much.  I think it was $20-$30 and I refused to pay anything.  I'm cheap!  :)

I wanted to as well!  We both work in Indianapolis, live in Indianapolis, and Sean grew up in Indianapolis, but we can do so much more with $50.

We are hoping between our alumni magazines we will get most people (since H's is from a Catholic High School most of his friends, their parents, and his family gets).

  • Our local county paper is only $10 for announcements. We didn't end up doing one though.

  • Free for all of ours. Although, with Newspapers in peril, I don't know why they don't all charge. I mean, not anything sky high (anything more than $30 seems too much to me), but they already charge for obits.
