What'd you think of that storm last night?

DH said it was probably worse in Manhattan where he was working than it was for me in Queens.  Definitely a lot of thunder, lightning, and rain.  Was it bad in your area?

Re: What'd you think of that storm last night?

  • I had the AC on all night so I didn't hear a thing, but I did see the lightening before I fell asleep and it looked pretty wild out there.

  • It seemed pretty bad on SI, I wonder what it was like in the city.  The lightning was crazy.

Lol Bonnie - you're really not on that much.

  • I'm on the UES and there was some crazy thunder!  There is also a very tall but thin tree outside our window that was swaying all over and making us a bit nervous.  It was all over pretty fast, though.

In reality, I have waaaay more than that.  I have been through several format changes since being on the Knot.  You did see that I joined in 2005, right?

  • My H and I were caught out in it, walking home from dinner, near SoHo. There was a ton of lightning and thunder and wind for a while, and then it started absolutely pouring.  We really lucked out and were able to grab a cab, otherwise we would have been drenched (and/or possibly elecrocuted)!

  • I was trying to get the laundry done when it started to pour! Our laundry room is in our basement but since we own a 3 family I have to go outside to get to it. I wound up coming upstairs with a basket of soaking wet clothes....what a waste. The lightning was crazy but kinda beautiful.

  • We're on the UWS and it was insane. Blinding rain so we couldn't even see out the windows and then the hail started! I thought the windows were going to break from the hail and the wind - I was so glad it was over in about 5 minutes.

  • I'm on the UWS side too. It was insane. I was eating outdoors with family when it hit. I got hit by a brick that fell off the building - No damage done to me but the restaraunt we were at had their awning snap and the tables and chairs all blow down the sidewalk.

What's sad about it is that Central Park was a mess this morning. Huge trees just ripped out at the roots all over the place. There is an article about it on the New York Times site. Worst devastation there in over 30 years..

  • I am still so amazed at the difference in weather just within NYC.  Not quite like SF, but different nonetheless. These micro-climates in each borough, neighborhood really.  I think those on the west side of the city got hit harder than those of us further east.
  • In my part of Queens, we didn't get it so bad - not the wind, anyway.  The lightening was crazy, looked like a strobe light!

  • It was pretty intense here, but yeah, I heard it was worse in Manhattan. I was just happy the kid slept through it.
