Best cell phone family plans

Good morning all. Here's my first annoying question...Does anyone use a family plan with your cell provider? Who do you use? Do you recommend them?

We are trying to figure out our cell situation, obviously.

Re: Best cell phone family plans

  • We use Bell and recommend them to everyone. As with most large companies, there seems to be "We hate them" and  "We love them" camps for all the Canadian cell phone companies, and I know someone will post after me saying that Bell is horrible. But we've never had a problem in the four of five years we've been with them, and I've sent family and friends their way too and they've all been happy.

    I am, however, in the "We hate Rogers" camp. I've had nothing but problems with Rogers for the three years my husband was with them. I don't think it would be an exaggeration to say that we spent over 100 hours on the phone with them during the duration of his contract, arguing to get issues solved. I've found that Bell has better customer service, better prices, and better phone quality than Rogers.

  • We use Fido - all fido to fido calling is free.
  • We have 2 phones on Virgin Mobile (mine and my nephew's). Unlimited texting, 300 minutes/month free, and free 7pm - 7am calling, as well as free Virgin-to-Virgin calling = $60.00 (including tax). We've been pretty happy with them, when my nephew isn't running up the bill by downloading crap that is! lol
  • We use rogers for cell and home phone and all rogers to rogers calling if free. I have a dirt cheap plan for everything else - 300 mins and unlimited txt for $20 for my cell.

    I don't have a family plan or anything though. I agree with pp though, the 2 big companies, Rogers and Bell do seem to have a love and hate em following. Right now I'm OK with Rogers, but have never been a Bell subscriber

  • I have a similar plan with Rogers are PPfor 20$/month, I have had this plan for over 6 years; and Dh has a great plan "my5" with 300 mins, {freetxt,  ld call,and local calls to 5 # of his choice} 6pm-8am free calling for 35$
    Neither one of use is on family plan;

    Totally agree with Bell/Rogers camps...
    I only ever had issues with my bell phone and they always wanted me to send them my phone for repair leaving my with nothing;
    I also find there plans dont vary or change often to keep people or deals going.
    I have had an issue of two with Rogers but they are always willing to make it up to me.
    I also find that the range rogers has is larger then Bell...

    Not here! That was one of the reasons my husband wanted to switch. Not five minutes out of town he'd lose service with Rogers- he gets way greater range with Bell. He's often out of town for work and he'd have no service at all with Rogers, while all his co-workers with other providers had service most of the trip.

    I think that really depends on geographic location. Rogers is better for me, but only because my work has signal boosters.... I couldn't get a bell signal if my phone was in my desk drawer. I'm on Petro Canada mobility which uses the Rogers network.

    I think who you choose will depend on how much you use your phone and where you are planning on using it (travelling).

  • I've been using Bell for 10 years for my business. I've never had a problem with them and I've always found them especially helpful when I've called with a problem. They've also been great with technical support questions since I've had my blackberry.

    My DH has been with Rogers for a few years. We originally went with them because our phone line was with Rogers and DH could call home for "free" (not use his minutes) because we were with the same company. He's currently researching other carriers when his contract is up because we now have our home phone line with the cable company.

    Like one of the other posters mentioned, most of the major companies have the "love" and "hate" camps.

  • Thanks for the advice. I don't think we'll be doing much travelling initially and any planned upcoming trips are to the States, so we'll just be in ON.
