IHO of 3-yr anniv. living in NYC

I feel like I have been here forever, but it's only 3 years. Wow. I am so used to NYC now, it's finally becoming home, but still if DH said, let's head back to Dominica, I would get to the airport faster than he would finish his sentence. LOL

So yesterday was the first time I came off from the subway station and walked in the right direction to my destination. LOL Although I later realized that I was on the wrong side of the road...but still I didnt walk up the wrong block so I feel that was a major acheivement. hehehe

What would you recommend I do to give me some NYC cred? I know that I still haven't gone to a Broadway play Embarrassed, i know, i know (it's at the top of my to-do list) but are there other things on a must-see/must do list to make me feel like a bonafide NYer? LOL

  • Yayayay for going in the right direction!! Big Smile I've been here for 6yrs and it's rare for me to get turned around once i'm out of the subway, so when it does happen i feel super retarded!! Tongue Tied

Let's see...have you been pick pocketed yet? I don't recommend it, but it's happened to me and i felt like that gave me street cred. Or unwittingly walked by a crime scene while they wheeled a body bag past you? I did that a few months ago and instantly felt awesome... Sad

Have you been to Serendipity 3 for their awesome ice cream? I'd add that to your list. A picnic in Central Park? A free event? (the summers are chock full of them!) Ooh, also a trip to Katz's Deli or 2nd Ave Deli.

    Have a great anniversary! Drinks

  • hmm...

    walk across the brooklyn bridge?

  • Ooh these are some good ones. Making a list. I am so embarassed to say that I have never been to Central Park. I haven't done any of what you mentioned here so far.

LOL Meggie, at the street cred pick pocketing LOL

    Thanks ladies!

  • I empathize Lawby! Last month marked four years since I moved here from near Chicago. You couldn't pay me to eat a NY hotdog because Chicago practically invented great hotdogs, and although I love the city's huge, greasy slices of pizza, there's nothing like a Chicago deep dish to salivate over! ?But you learn to love and appreciate NY's constant evolution of new things to see and do.

I would recommend before the summer is over, heading down to the Hudson and taking a ferry ride on any of the city's lines with DH or a friend. ?

  • We've been here just over 4 years! wow! its crazy to me even now, but I don't think we're leaving any time soon. I just read this article on timeout new york

    article

    50 Classic NYC summer activities.

I'm going to try and get the ILs to go to governors island for a picnic this weekend. There's a lot on that list that I still want to check out. have fun!!

I was born and raised here and I still do that. I got out at Bway and 72nd with the baby a few months ago and had no idea which way I was going. I had to stop and ask a guy which way Central Park was!

As for street cred, I would say picnic in the Sheeps Meadow in Central Park.

  • Yay for being a NY'er.

Great article, Liza.  I am going to have to bookmark that.

I still get disoriented when I exit a subway that I am not super familiar with. The worst is getting lost in Penn Station recently.  Just for a minute, but seriously that place is huuuuge.
