Update on Sammi

1st of all, let me say thank you to you all for the T&P's. I was really stressed out today but it looks like Sammi will pull through. His tail is alive again. Albeit shaved and with a wound. He has to take medicine for the next 2 weeks. He was also such a trooper on the trains and bus. I am home alone so he is in the BR with me at my feet taking little taps. I am going to lock him in the 2nd bedroom later on but for now, I am letting him take a bit of A/C as its quite hot. What a day...I really thought I was going to lose him.

Now onto fiscal matters LOL, anyone wanna recommend their pet insurance? Do you think insurance is worth it? I was thinking to just save a bit every month for him in a special account and use it for his emergency fund (actually I did that but used it up last Christmas Embarrassed) so I would appreciate any suggestions on saving $$ at the vet.

Thanks again to you all for your kind words and support.

Re: Update on Sammi

  • I was actually going to suggest that before but thought no need to stress you any more. I totally recommend the insurance.  I've had to hospitalize my dog twice, once for surgery when he broke his hip. I had to put up the money first but got back about 80%. The company I use is Vetinary Pet Insurance (VPI). You can find info on their websight petinsurance.com they are very easy to deal with and can pay for it monthly. I have them just debit it from my checking account, and just so you have an idea on price I pay about 30/month for an 8 year old dog with full cancer coverage and the upgrade to include vacinations. It's not bad and think its worth it. Hope that helps and glad he's doing better.

  • Poor Sammi. I'm glad he's going to be okay.

  • I'm so glad that Sammi is home, with a tail and getting some loving and pamperin. Poor little guy!

We have VPI, too. I took out the insurance after we had a couple of major problems. Since then they have been pretty good. None of the insurances really cover dental. I have heard good things about ASPCA. I like that ASPCA has one $100 deductible for the entire year, not $50 per incident.

Big (((hugs))) to you and Sammi tonight!

  • I'm a little late reading the update, but just wanted to say I'm happy he is home and doing well! I'm glad he'll get to keep his tail (and I'm sure he is as well). =) Speedy recovery!

As for pet insurance. I have the 4 cats so for me to insure all 4 of them it would run be about $120 a month. I'm not sure if it is worth it or not for us. Plus you also have to take into consideration the deductibles. It'll cost me a small fortune. But for you, with having just Sammi, it may be worth it. I'd definitely look into it. =)

I hope he feels better soon...

  • Thanks again and I appreciate the insurance suggestions. I will look into that. Things are kind of tight but we will have to see where we can work it into the budget for our lil kitty. He's resting a lot today although last night, he protested with loud meows, at staying in the 2nd bedroom -suffice to say we got no sleep.

  • I just got back from my trip and totally missed all the Sammi drama - I am so glad to hear he is on the mend!!  Kitties are such stinkers - if there is a way to get themselves in trouble, they will find it! Definitely board up those windows so he can't squeak out for now!
