Where is the Sandman...

Cause he's not at my house!

I normally have no issues sleeping, but last night, I don't think I slept more than three hours! And if I could blame the baby I would, but the baby was doing (next to) nothing. It was me I think, just laying there staring at the ceiling. I tried music, TV, a book, and a french book - nothing.

Exhausted today that's for sure. I have never experienced that level of insomnia before, I feel for those of you with sleep problems!

How do you deal with your sleepless nights?

Re: Where is the Sandman...

  • My girlfriend has the same problem. I am not sure that she has found a solution, but I know that she has stopped lying there hoping to fall asleep. She usually gets up and tries to occupy herslf for an hour or two until she is ready to go to sleep.
  • I get up and try to do something, but it doesn't always work.
  • It's funny you say that because I had the same type of night!

I think I only fell asleep at around 4am....I was online, folded some laundry, orginized the baby's closet...then I felt tired.

    I just hope this isn't a pattern....

I debated getting up, but worried it would just wake me up more! Maybe next time that's what I'll do, there's no shortage of to do's on the list right now!

Don't try to do anything too stimulating.  I fold laundry or empty the dishwasher, pay some bills.... really exciting things.

  • If it's the first time, maybe it's not PG related? Did you eat chocolate or spicey foods yesterday?

I had nightmares last night because I ate chocolate before bed :( I'm going to have to cut out my chocolate intake, doh!

  • I think last night was just that kind of night. DH and I are both insomniacs so we usually keep each other company.  Our trick is to watch something on TV that we love but have seen a million times so we don't have to pay attention but  we are still distracted from praying for sleep.  We watch Stargate (SG1 and Atlantis), Numbers, Bones or house.

HOwever last night we were up ALL night.  Scarlett is a great sleeper and very rarely wakes up at night and she woke up at 4am and wouldn't go back down so we let her watch tv with us until she fell asleep at around 6am.

  • I get up and do something mind numbing. It always makes me sleepy.
  • Ugh I hate that feeling. And you're just a waste the next day! gar...

I don't put the tv on, it just stimulates me more. You said you tried reading and it didn't work, eh? That usually is what does it for me.

My mom's an insomniac - had major issues in university with the no sleeping thing. Know what helped her? Yoga. No lying. She still does it every night before bed and swears by it.
