I found out today that my little brother just got laid off from his job at an architecture firm. His wife just finished her degree in engineering and has been job hunting as well. They are in a tough spot w/ neither of them employed, and need all the prayers and help they can get. If anyone knows of jobs in either of those fields please let me know (they are currently living in Kansas City, MO, but would be willing to relocate for a decent job).
Re: Prayers Please
I know this is not a permanent solution, but I have worked for temp agencies when between jobs. If they know Microsoft Office, they can make well above minimum wage (I made twice minimum wage) and can choose what days they work and when they want off for interviews, etc. If they do this, tell them to sign up for several agencies (I didn't do that, but I found out they don't expect you to only work for them, since they might not have something every day) and to call in the minute the agency opens asking if there is anything available every time they are free. It is easier to just hand a job to you if you are already on the phone than to hang up and call someone else. I had several long-term jobs and was offered jobs from them. I know they don't want office jobs for the long term, but I think networking and knowing people who are impressed with your work ethic is never bad, and you never know who is there that has connections in engineering and architecture and might be able to refer you to them. Almost every job I have gotten has been the result of someone I know telling someone about me.
Good luck to them and congratulations on your new daughter! Baby girls are wonderful and I'm sure she already has you wrapped around those tiny fingers!
