remember your first day of high school?

the teen's is today.  we picked up a couple of friends on the way so that they'd have each other for moral support, and there was lots of nervous giggling and "OMG, i'm soooo nervous!" going on in the car.

i remember being super anxious and overwhelmed.  and excited for cute older boys.  ha.

Re: remember your first day of high school?

  • Yay Teen!  I hope she has a great first day!

My first day was so scary.  I was new to the bay area from San Diego.  I wore super short shorts and a T shirt from Wet Seal that I thought was so boss. I had a great tan coming from SD.  I was OFF.  So OFF.  Everyone had those colored jeans with the floral transparent blouses and other covered up style clothes.

    I felt like a ho.

  • I dreaded my first day of high school...My Mom was a teacher in the high school and a lot of my new teachers were her friends that I'd known growing up so it was ackward. (I remember my history teacher calling me by her first name for the first week Indifferent )

Other than that it wasn't too bad. I was a twirler and had spent the summer in practice with the twirlers/marching band which helped me to know some more faces than I had before..

  • Oh gosh, this brings up so many cool memories.

My brother was a junior when I was arriving as" fresh meat" to our HS. That's what they called Freshmen girls. Anyway, my brother had already established himself as the popular jock--party-guy and I was so stoked that he drove me to school in his VW bus. It took my nerves down a couple notches to have my big bro there. The most nervous part for me was getting to every class on time. I wasn't used to having lockers so it was kind of the beginning of my nitch for time management.  :)

  • Yay teen!  How exciting for her!

My high school was brand spankin new when I went for the first day, so everyone was new and everyone was lost.  I remember I was on the news asking for directions to a class because they filmed me.  How mortifying.  I remember I was super nervous, but so was everyone else, so that helped.

  • How exciting! I hope her day goes well!

  • It was awful.  I had just moved from a different school district, and I didn't know a soul.  Everybody else was already friends with each other -- some since kindergarten.

Thankfully, another girl was new, too, so I didn't have to eat lunch alone.  We had almost every single class together and became best friends that year.

Too bad she turned into SuperPsychoGradeGrubbingBitch at the end of the year.

  • I just remember thinking I was NEVER going to learn the huge confusing layout of the school. And it wasn't even that huge or confusing.

I think I was still in my huge clothes phase. Baggy jeans, Airwalks, and Mossimo t-shirts. Hot.

    This

And my mom taught at the high school too and she was so worried about me she kept seeking me out during the day to make sure I was ok. So embarrassing!

  • Side ponytail and a scrunchie.

I think I tossed out all my freshman year pictures several years ago. That's how good of a start I had to high school.

  • My shrink says to try not to remember that day.

    [cricket]

I kid. But it was really that mortifying.

  • a few kids from my middle school and i carpooled together (we commuted out to a private school not so close to where we all lived), so i knew at least a handful of others.  too bad i wasn't super friendly with them and they were all way too cool for me.  i don't remember much else from the first day specifically.

Ditto this, plus most of the kids also went to the same church and seemed to have the same after school activities too.    Crying

  • I don't really remember mine, but it wasn't too big a deal because I had been doing my dance team thing all summer, so I was familair with the school and had a big group of people that I knew.

Yeah, I was always really envious that my brother had the experience of having friends from third grade through high school.  He'd known his high school girlfriend and some of his friends since they were seven!

I feel like, when this is the case, the first day of high school is not that big a deal because you're still with your same friends.

  • I don't really remember the first day.  Most of my friends from middle school went to the same high school as did some people from elementary school that didn't go to middle school.  It was kinda like a reunion of the sort. I remember it being kinda weird having classes with people that knew my brother.  He graduated the year before.

I was always super envious of the other kids who grew up together.  I always felt a little disadvantaged in that sense.

I?m totally having flashbacks from my early high school days.  Someone hold me.

  • I very much remember my first day.  I was very immature for 14 years old and just had to have these tennis shoes that were white, but when the sun hit them, purple flowers emerged.  I remember walking around with my brand new shoes, looking at everyone else, and thinking, "OMG.  I am about 5 years too old for these shoes."  I wanted to cut my feet off.  I was so embarrassed all day.

  • Yay for teen!

I do remember my first day very clearly, how odd. I went to a private high school and did not have any of my existing junior high friends to find.

  • I remember mine. It was horrible, which pretty much describes the rest of high school too. I went from a school with 18 people in my class from K - 8, to a public high school. It was a bit if an adjustment.

    sorry, this made me laugh!

I missed my first two days of HS because I was deathly ill.

    yAy!

  • It wasn't that big of a deal since all my best friends transferred over with me from Junior High. We did carpool though and formed our little popular girls group pretty much from Day one.

    Oh. My God.

  • Those shoes were my "treat" for getting my braces off.  Embarrassed

I also had a first day of HS like this! I was miserable that day.

This, except substitute cheerleading and XCountry for dance.

  • I don't remember it at all but I don't have bad memories.  My sister was two years ahead of me so I knew her friends.  I also had my friends that I knew from 6th grade on.  I had tried out for/made the volleyball team over summer so I made some new friends there as well.  I do remember getting my braces off the day before freshman years pictures and I was so excited.

The teen has won half the battle by already knowing people and having friends.

  • I don't remember the first day specifically, but I went to the HS not in my catchment area, so I think I knew maybe 3 people in the entire school. I had been chosen to be a freshman rep though (instead of voting on the officers, kids were pre-chosen to run the class activities) and that helped immensely! I met some of my really good friends in Leadership class so I think I had people to hang out and eat lunch with fairly early in the year.

I hope the teen had a good first day!
