Travel Question

Does anyone know if the public transportation is pretty good in Seattle? I am thinking about going there for a couple of days and I'm wondering if I need to rent a car. I will be staying at the W hotel, does anyone know if it's pretty central to restaurants, shopping, etc?

Re: Travel Question

  • Hmm.  We've never rented a car, but we also didn't take public transportation.  We got around on foot and in cabs.

I've never stayed at the W there, so I don't even know where it's located, but yay for the W!

  • seattle proper is pretty small, and i think there is a free bus around downtown and to certain parts of the city.  last time i went, we would ride the bus in with our friends who live 30 mins. outside seattle.  i do have a friend who lives downtown and does not own a car and gets around fine (although she does do flexcar).

no idea where the W is in relation to things, though.

  • i dont know where the w is but i have taken buses from the airport to belltown (seattle is split up into these districts? but they are all still seattle- ish)  and i did not have a car the entire time- it seems like most things are close to each other- if you google seattle + bus or something similar a public transportation page will come up and you can enter where you are starting to where you are going... and it will give you which bus' to take and where to transfer. have fun!
  • oh, and the buses are clean and not shady.  my friend and i also walked from salumi to the public library area to belltown, which was apparently all over the main parts of seattle, and we were fine.
  • Thanks everyone. If things are within walking distance than I will probably just do that.
