Eff

So, I've been sick as a dog for the past 16 days - coughing all day and night, URI symptoms, etc. My boss is back from vacation, took one look at me, heard my symptoms and has pretty much diagnosed me with pertussis, aka whooping cough. Eff me. I'm trying to get antibiotics from my dr. for H and I (prophy for him, treatment for me), but hell, this cough might go on for WEEKS! Aaaaaah! :(

Re: Eff

  • in college, my studiomates and me would catch a really bad cold that turned into a really bad, months-long cough and pass it around.  we jokingly called it "the whooping cough" then "the whoop."  sadly, after reading about pertussis, it sounds like that's what we all might have really had.

hope you feel better soon. :(.  the whoop is very annoying to have.

I'm sorry jonesy.  I am feeling a little the same way, which is awful since I'm going on vacay on Sunday.  Tussin helps but not for long.  I've been coughing to the point that I almost puke.

I'm going to go to Urgent Care after work.  I hope you feel better soon!

Be sure to bring up that you think it could be pertussis. Seriously. My urgent care visit was a joke - gave me an inhaler, some amoxicillin (doesn't help with pertussis) and cough syrup with codiene (also not recommended for pertussis). Needless to say, nothing has worked and I'm still sick.

  • This is depressing.  I'm sorry.

Well, what is the medication/treatment for pertussis then?

  • Oh no :( I'm so sorry to hear that, Jonesy. I hope you feel better soon :(

  • I had the whoop twice. The first time it went untreated for so long that I had it for about 3 months.  The dr. put me on inhalers, antibiotics, allergy meds and when nothing helped she shipped me off to a specialist.  He took my blood and had it tested and found out it was the whoop. I was coughing so hard that I was gaging and nearly puking. I thought I was gonna pop a lung out so I totally feel your pain.  Get tested asap so that you can be treated. I also had to get the DTaP vaccine after my second go around with it.
  • Whoop!  Sucks.  Sad
