what electric company do you use?
Who do you use? Pros/cons?
TIA!
Re: what electric company do you use?
Simple Power - they were cheaper than everyone else at $0.116 / kWh. I'm not a fan of contracts, but we went ahead and signed a 6 month at first and now signed another year.
I haven't had any problems with them at all except for the initial switch, which was a ridiculous headache. They told me to tell Reliant I was leaving them, I told Reliant and instead of "handing" me over, Reliant cancelled my service. It was a wreck.
And speaking of Reliant, we were with them for 3 years and had no issues. There was no contract, which we loved and they were the cheapest at that time and the rate was guaranteed for a few years. After that particular plan went away, I think we were at .13 or something, they sent us a letter letting us know how much the new rate was going to be so we just switched to Simple since it was cheaper.
I'm not sure if Reliant or Simple Power was at fault during the switch, the result was 2 days without power which pissed me off, but really both sides were doing stupid stuff so I blame them equally - i.e simple power put in an emergency request to restore power, but sent in the wrong time so it never happened the first day, etc.
And... before all of this we had TXU for over 4 years. I just hated them for no particular reason. Always more expensive and a pain in the butt to deal with

will give you info about all of the power companies and their current rates for your area. Looks like Simple power is now at .096
This. We switched to Champion and got a good rate. The con with Champion: they screwed up our billing when we transferred service from our old apt. to our house. I don't know all of the details because DH was the one dealing with them, but I do know it took several months and A LOT of time on the phone with their customer service reps to get it sorted out. Total PITA.
Definitely check out the Power to Choose website for rates and contract info.
We also switched from Reliant to Champion because they were literally half the price per kwh most months. I actually got all of my electric bills over last year with Reliant and compared.
Anyway, we have had no problems with Champion, and we didn't have any problems with the switch.
Champion! FI figured all that stuff out so I have no idea how the rate is compared to other electric companies... but he said they had the best rate! We haven't had any issues with anything either. Yet.
