Re: POLL: WEBN Fireworks

  • We spent plenty of years on the Ohio side, but one year we got the itchin' to go over to Kentucky and wow! what a difference. We sat on the leve and the view is better, you can find a good spot later in the day. And getting out of traffic isn't nearly as horrible.

  • Neither - I watch them on the River, but we always honk the horn and scream when they want to hear the KY side because we are from KY:)

I watched the fireworks from the KY side one time and I will never do it again.  The view is SO much better on the river.

  • Both DH and I grew up watching the fireworks with our families (KY side) and have watched them together/ with friends each year we've been together. Well, in April, we bought a house that is is situated so that if we walked 5-6 blocks, we would be able to plop down and see them. However, we'll be out of town and will miss them for the first time ever!
  • We'll be on the river (with Boone County Water Rescue - look for us!)

I've been twice on the Ohio side and hated it. Of course, that probably is because I hate crowds.

The first time I went we got there at about 3pm to get a good spot, and it was sooooooo hot that day. After it was over I remember thinking "I sat out in the sun for hours for 30 min of show? Ridiculous"

Honestly, if I weren't doing boat patrol, I'd just watch from home.

Yupp!  From the boat every year.  I did land once and will never, ever do that again!

  • We sit on the Ohio side, at home, preserving our sanity. This year, we'll still be on the Ohio side but closer downtown (hopefully in the hospital either having this baby or recovering).
  • Last year we went down and parked for free at a street meter in Newport. We were heading to the Reds Game and planned on staying all day for the fireworks. We noticed at 10:30am people had set our tarps to "Save their seats" on the hill at the Levee, so we set out our blanket too. We didn't return to our blanket until 7:30 that night after the game, dinner, drinks, and roaming around.  We had the best seats!! No one touched anyone's tarps! I couldn't believe it! I soooo recommend this tactic if you plan to go this year!

Now leaving was a different story...ugh the traffic :)

  • The past few years we've taken the TANK bus shuttle from NKU.  They drop us off in Newport and then they have buses lined up to pick everyone up after the fireworks are over.  We usually watch from in front of the Aquarium which puts us right between the bridges.  The view is great and I love not having to deal with the traffic!
  • This is the first year we will actually be watching them, been here almost 3 years and have never seen them!, and we'll be in a friends apartment up in One Lytle Place on the river...hopefully it'll be a good show and look good from where we will be!

At least we won't have to deal with any crowds in the apt building :)

  • A friend lives in Newport and I usually watch them from the deck on her roof. Still bad traffic getting out of there, though!
