Poll: Who picked out your engagement ring?

I saw this poll on a knot board and was just curious what the percentages would be like with you girls.[Poll]

Re: Poll: Who picked out your engagement ring?

  • we went together so that he could get the right size and the right height because I work in health care he did not want a ring that would stick up to high. In then end he picked out the right on his own never told anyone either.
  • For as long as I can remember, I wanted an emerald cut diamond, (that is what my grandmother has).  I told him that and he went from there.

  • hmm.  I was going to guess that "shopping together" was going to win.  We'll see.

And now I want to know how it went for the people who picked "other".  What scenario did I miss?

  • We went ring shopping so I could show him examples of what I wanted... so I guess mine was more of a mix lol
I'm friends with everybody in this office. We're all best friends - I love everybody here. But sometimes your best friends start coming into work late, and start having dentist appointments that aren't dentist appointments. And that's when it is nice to let them know that you can beat them up.
  • We were going to do a JOP one day (for military reasons that I've never fully been okay with), and we went to the mall to pick out wedding bands. Then, as he was in a jewelry store, my BFF called so I stepped out to talk to her and bursted into tears telling her what our plan was. Apparently I wasn't okay with it and didn't even fully know it. Mike saw me sobbing in the middle of the mall, cancelled his transaction, and came to my side. After that, we decided to wait and have a real wedding. That day though, we left the mall, went to a different jewelry store, and I picked out my engagement ring. He bought it that day, but hid it in our tiny apartment and tormented me for 9 months before proposing. Smile
  • C, you had to wait 9 months from ring to proposal? I would have lost my damn mind. p.s. I misses you.

  • My ring is similar in design to the one Chandler gives Moncia on FRIENDS. We watch Friends together all the time, and I always said how much I loved that ring. He sorta tricked me and had me pick out a bunch of different designs (just "Oh, this is nice" and "I like this one too") and then he ended up going to the jewler and designing a version of the "Chandler ring" for me.

Yes, it was torture. And you can bet that I searched our tiny apartment inside and out to try to find the damn thing... to no avail. Turns out, he was hiding it inside the seat of his motorcycle in the garage (the clever devil!)

    P.S. I misses you mostest.

  • M is far more clever than W, who had my ring in the box in the bag CHILLING ON TOP OF HIS DRESSER.

p.s. Just found a $25 off purchase of $50 at BB&B plus the $60 store credit. Looks like I'm getting my duvet set there. That'd be the best option financially, right?

  • I picked other because we went together to look at bands and I picked 3 out I liked. He picked the stone on his own and surprised me with it.

  • DH picked out my ring on his own. He did a wonderful job, it's everything I would have picked out for myself.

  • we shopped together to give him an idea of what i liked. then he picked out the actual ring on his own.

  • DH and I went ring shopping but we didn't see anything we loved.  He began designed a ring that he was looking for and got a local jeweler to do it.

But, poor thing kept taking me to look at rings even after he had the ring made to throw me off.  But, then I found a beautiful ring that I loved at the jeweler he got to make my ring, and it was 40% off for a fourth of july sale.  I dragged him in there with me and made him look at it. So, when i come in the next week and it is gone, i assume he bought it.

Funny enough, the ring he got me is very similar to the one I loved, so when he proposed I was so excited I barely looked at the ring besides to see the shape. I was saying, I knew you bought me that ring...and he was so hurt I didn't notice that he had it made!

  • He picked mine out all by himself (a heart cut solitaire). I'm glad he did because I liked it being a surprise and I probably would have second guessed my self. He bought my ring 10 months before he proposed and I was sure he didn't even have one yet:) It was sort of a pain to find a wedding band that went with it but we got to do that together.

  • He picked it out himself and surprised me.  I had hinted at what I liked though.

  • We surprised me and took me into the store on day and we ended up looking around a bit, didnt find anything that either of us really liked so when we got home we looked on the internet at a few things i liked... then he designed it and had it handmade.
  • I knew I wanted an inexpensive engagement ring because I didn't want to wear two rings at the same time so I knew it would go into a drawer as soon as I got my "real" ring (wedding band).  We did go to a national chain jeweler first and were appalled at their terrible selection and worse prices.  I wanted a sapphire, my birthstone, and they had exactly one.

So I found a few rings I liked on eBay and he won the one I liked best.  Win.

  • We went and looked at rings together. Not just for the engagement ring, but we looked at wedding bands for him etc to get an idea of what we both liked. He picked out my e-ring band (which I LOVE.. it has all sorts of detailing on it) and how big the diamonds are etc. I think it was nice we went together since we'll be wearing our rings forever.. you want to like your ring, ya know? But I didn't know exactly what I'd look like til he proposed. Worked for us :)
