Help me plan my trip to NYC! (please!)

Hello! My husband and I (along with another couple) are headed to NYC for a long weekend (11/6-11/9).  I have been to New York 5-6 times previously but always for business so my hotels, restaurants, shows, etc have usually been "pre-planned" or at least significantly narrowed down for me.

We aren't interested in seeing any Broadway shows and the guys already have something lined up for Sunday afternoon but we need suggestions for the rest of our stay.  We love to eat/drink/socialize/shop.  No one else has been to the city before so we would probably include a little sightseeing (no sightseeing tours please!).

As far as hotels, I think we have it narrowed down to The Peninsula, Mandarin Oriental, St. Regis or maybe The Plaza.  Any thoughts?  Any ideas for great/interesting/new/must see restaurants or clubs we need to visit?

Any and all suggestions are much appreciated including any travel advice for navigating the city.  Thanks so much in advance for your help!  We can't wait to visit.

  • Out of those hotel options, I'd pick the St. Regis.

For dinners, I'd go with Asia de Cuba, Rosa Mexicana and Angelo Maxie (three very different options).  Rodeo bar is a fun place to hang out, as is B-Bar.

I'd go for dim sum in China Town for an early lunch and then walk around that area - you can stretch that walk into Little Italy too.  Have you ever been to Ellis Island? It's a great way to spend a few hours.  Are you museum people? I'd do the Met and the Museum of Natural History.

  • I second Asia De Cuba! You must try the coconut cake it is to die for!

Mario Batoli has a great resturant called Babbo that is definately worth going to.

If you want a fun spot for some really great Pizza walk across the Brooklyn bridge and down towards promanad, the place is called Grimaldis, YOU WILL STAND IN LINE TO EAT HERE. Bring Cash.

In Chinatown there is a place called Wo Hop (17 mott) Go to the restraunt in the basement It is fantastic.
