We may be homeowners next month!
We got a letter regarding our Hawaiian Homestead status. For those of you who don't know what a Hawaiian Homestead/Homeland is, see a short synopsis here:

We did all of the prequalification paperwork in May/June and got approved! We were invited to the information meeting today to see the models that would be available and to look at the various options. It seems like many families had to pull out of the process due to the economy and their finances. So the homes that are now being built in Kapolei have some lots without homeowners. There are about 75 lots available from previous selections. Therefore, these homes could be ready between Jan and Sept of 2010.
The lottery will be held in mid September. One's name is pulled based on the date of your application for the Homestead. This is not a new process for us. We've been to about 3 lotteries in the past 4 years. Land for new homes doesn't become available for sometimes a year or more at a time; at least on Oahu.
