yard sales

Can anyone give any insight on how to run one of these? My garage is quickly filling up with furniture and a few other odds and ends that have got to go! It's all good stuff, just not our style anymore. How do I go about a yard sale?

Re: yard sales

  • Actually we just planned to have our first today but cancelled because of weather.  We also have a lot of baby stuff, baby items, toys, books and household items to get rid of.  I just spent the last week organizing and tagging everything.  I plan to post on craigslist and post signs around our neighborhood...we plan  to have one the week after Labor Day.  I googled 'yard sales' and found some helpful sites.  I think the key is to have things organized, clean and reasonably priced (from 50 cents to a few bucks). Good luck!

  • Sometimes your town will require permits. Pretty sure they cost a little bit of money. I'd call and ask b/c I think you can get fined if they catch you without one.

We usually just put an ad in the local papers and make sure you put 'No Early Birds' because people will be at your house at like 6am helping you unpack stuff.  RUDE!

We usually don't put prices on clothes, only big ticket items.  People will try to haggle and we usually don't budge unless they're buying alot.  You could also do a bag yard sale and say that each bag you fill is $XX.  Depends on what kinds of things you have.

    GL!

  • Hey Staci...just an FYI, I know Swedesboro requires a permit and I believe it is $11. Aside from that, just mark your items at a fair price. You can advertise via craigslist and put an ad in the paper if you'd like.. you can also make signs and put them around town. Good luck!
  • hmm...so I wonder if Logan does too. Maybe I'll just hold off until there's another community yard sale sponsored by the real estate places.
