Hubby thinks he knows how to build a deck. We spent 3 hours in Lowe's this morning because he was "guesstimating" at the amount of wood he needed. Then we spent the last hour and a half drilling all kinds of holes in the house because he thinks he knows how to measure. Then he decides he needs to go back to Lowes because he messed up a piece of wood. The man drives me nuts with his lack of home-repair/building skills!
And he won't ask for help, which blows, because then we get in screaming matches because he doesn't want to hear my thoughts.
So he's at Lowes and I'm here cooking dinner. I told him I didn't want to be part of the project anymore tonight. lol
Hopefully it will get finished - it's a small deck - we just put sliding glass doors in our kitchen so it's just right off that 3' and 2 steps down. It's anchoring it to the house that is the p.i.t.a.
Thanks for letting me vent! ![]()
Re: *trying* to build a deck...
I'm sorry. I know how frustrating DH ideas can be. At least he's trying.
Incidentally mine just built a huge deck off the front of our house. He used an online deck project Website and calculator for all the materials, etc. Even still, he was way short on materials and had to make many trips to Lowe's or HD to pick up "extras" all along the way.
Hang in there.
Vent away....
In our house we refer to Lowe's as the "fighting place".
Oh no! I would be done for the night too!
Hopefully it all goes well though!
I have the opposite problem. Thankfully, DH is very handy and knows how to do a lot. He spent a few years through high school and college working for a company that builds beautiful homes... so now he is always wanting to add a wall here, a bump out there, or dreaming about building our future house. Its all good, but it wears me out at times keeping up with it all!
Haha - oh, how I have been there.
DH built a deck this Summer. I can't tell you how many trips he (and I, when I was feeling nice) made to Home Depot to get more supplies.
Shockingly it turned out beautifully! I still can't believe it.
Tried to find a picture of the finished product to PIP, best I found was this one of the dog admiring a small corner of his handy work... haha.
Good luck
In my bag: Canon 60D, 50mm 1.4, Tamron 28-75 2.8, 430exii
It's looking soooooooo much better today once it's framed out w/ the joists. Phew.
We're taking 2 days break since DH has to study for his police academy test on Friday. I just realized he's about halfway done with the academy! Woo!
Friday after work and all day Saturday are dedicated to this deck. If it's done by Sunday, it's a fantastic thing! We've got family coming down for a Labor Day party!
Erin, deck looks good! Cute pic! And I didn't realize you had such little time left! How exciting!
