Where were you for Katrina?

I was actually stuck in Prairieville I couldnt get back to Houston all my family is from Neworleans area or was from there, not so much anymore. My aunt lost her house and we had 20 people in my parents home.

Re: Where were you for Katrina?

  • I was on LSU's campus working in the dorms as an RA trying to appease students and their families. It was nervewracking as heck! My family (from NOLA) evacuated to BR too. Not my dorm room though...
  • i was at home in walker, praying i didn't get called up to go in to work at OLOL.
  • I had gone to my aunt's house in Lafayette for the weekend.  She had just had her daughter a couple weeks prior.  I was planning on driving back for a hurricane party but then I realized how bad it was going to be so I stayed put.

joeysgirl--you were an RA at the time?  I betcha five dolla you know my BFF!  YGPM

  • DH and I were in BR at our small 1 bedroom apt. Two of my friends from Slidell and their 2 kids stayed with us. It was a good thing too b/c Slidell was no place for children for a long time. We were without power for a week but the worst part was not being able to reach everyone to make sure they were okay. A lot of our family rode out the storm on the Northshore.

Side note:  My Dad always dreamed of living on the water and he was only in his place right off the Ponchatrain for 3 months before the storm hit. Killed that dream for him.  Crying

  • We were in BR and ended up going to my in-laws house. We thought we might lose power and stuff, and they had a generator were hooked up in case it got bad. We ended up staying there for an entire week, and it was so hard getting home because of the traffic, lack of traffic lights, and the rest of the mess.

  • I was living in Fla at the time, so missed it all. It was so strange watching it all go down on the news. I was almost in denial about how bad it was because it was all so unreal.

I was in NYC most of that week. Katrina was on every news station there pretty much all of the time. There is no shortage of crazy news there; it usually sounds like some kind of crazy tv show. I finally realized that if this hurricane was worse than everything they had going on in NYC for a whole week, it must be very serious. That was not a good feeling.
