Lame. ((Long))

So I did not get the full time job. Which I was completely expecting. However this is how the day went when I found out:

9 am: Standing, watching new trainee on register, Front End manager walks by and says "Hey I have something for you later" ::thumbs up::

9:45 am: ?Brings over "Superstar" pin for a customer who thought I was the bees knees and sent a compliment into our corporate?headquarters?about it

3 pm: FE manager Lynn walks by and says, "Do you have a minute?" and leads me to HR where I am told how awesome I am, how I completely blew them away with my interview, answering all the questions thoroughly and using solid examples, but how I still didn't get the job.

?

So, here I was, holding onto this shred of hope with the thumbs up thing, and instead of a steady 40 hours/week and decent paycheck, I got an ultra-lame pin. Optimist me is thinking, "well at least they gave me an interview and a chance." I have only been in my current position for 3-4 months, so it is understandable that maybe they would want someone with more time doing the job. But pessimist me feels like they only gave me the interview because I am already at that store, they had already counted me out before the interview and then when I impressed them so much, they had to come up with some lame feedback that was basically, "we have nothing to tell you other than you just need more time on the job."....hmm, well how can I get that when I am scrambling for hours every week? Still feeling a bit burned here, obviously. ?

Re: Lame. ((Long))

  • Meag...I'm sorry to hear you didn't get the job and I imagine the pin must have felt lame in light of that. {{{HUGS}}}

    I am glad you got good feedback on your interview though.  Do you think you could go in to ask HR what they think you could improve upon in order to move up the ladder in the near future?  If it really is just longevity, maybe express your desire to have more hours in order to show your commitment and willingness to work and learn?  I don't know what else to say but, I hope that something else opens up soon for you...maybe that why this happened!?

  • Well, we talked about what I can improve upon, and it really is just putting in more time and getting more experiences in. I expressed interest in cross-training in basically any dept that will have me. The thing that has me most upset about it is because its at the store I am already at, I have to help the people that got the job I wanted, to be welcoming to them and "show them the ropes" here. So I had the advantage, because I'm already in, in the biggest, highest volume store, know the people but it still wasn't enough. It's hard to start all over again, which is basically what I did when I moved to Rochester post-wedding. I left my FT job and was just cashing, and in the 6 months since then, I really felt like I stepped up to every new opportunity - I started doing the overnights, then I learned the Cust. Service Desk, became PT coordinator (which I would liken to an asst manager type thing) and do training. And I know how lame this all sounds too, its so embarrassing telling people I work PT at Wegmans. Its a job that high school kids have. But you have to start somewhere, right? And this is a big company here.?

    Anyhow, now I think I am going to start focusing on corporate jobs. I love working in the store, having every day be something different, and esp being able to move around all day rather than sit at a desk, but Kevin agreed that when it is closer to our anniversary that we can start TTC, but I won't want to do that until I get something more stable and get the $$ flowing a bit. And hopefully get into at least a better apt, if we can't work out a house yet. ?

  • Well, it certainly sounds like you are doing everything right.  I'm hoping that the reason for this was that there is another opportunity that is coming around the bend soon!

  • Just wanted to echo the other ladies and say that I'm sorry it didn't work out. It sounds like you are a great employee and either you will move up soon at your current company or find something else with more opportunity. Best of luck!!
