So this weekend has been pretty tramatizing. I got home Thursday to find the back sliding glass door busted in and lots of stuff missing from the house.
I HATE theifs. I hate that they stole our computers (especially the one with all my financial data in Quicken). And I really hate having to spend the last 2 days closing/cancelling accounts, getting new passwords and then realizing I can't remember my security question answers. And I can't open/close the back door.
So, anyone have an ideas on where I can go to get new back doors. I'm thinking French doors of some sort?
Re: I need a new door...
Actually, I think I have a few screws loose beacause I don't feel that violated. I'm more just really annoyed at the inconvenience of it all. They got electronics - a cell phone, all 3 computers, an external hard drive, our cell phone and a digital camera. But they left my nice DSLR, all my jewelry, out pottery, etc. It's just weird. (And I'm aslo really happy no one was home when tehy broke in and they left us all the "irreplacable" stuff.)
The police don't have a lot of hope. There weren't any good fingerprints. Just a bunch of smudges and one partial. Apparently there have been a lot of electronic thefts the last week down near us around UNM. and the electronics can all be wiped and sold/pawned pretty easy.
I really just want a working door. I have to walk around, unlock the side yard gate, bush-whack through the Mexican oregeno and pumpkin just to get to the garden, compost pile and water!
Humm, that definitely doesn't sound to professional, I'm glad they didn't take anything of sentimental value though.
Do you have someone coming to look at the door?

We went by Lowes and Home Depot yesterday. We don't have anyone coming out to look yet because we're waiting for the insurance adjustor/estimator to come buy. We want an idea of what the insurance claim $ will be before we go out looking to spend more money.
We went ahead and sprung for teh computer, but the door is going to be pricey - new door, take out old door, installation, etc. We did have the neighborhood handyman say that the door itself is busted and there is no hope on getting the sliders to work again.
So sorry to hear abount the break in. When our house in Phoenix got broken into, the insurance sent a door company out within a couple of days. Maybe ask your agent? They might not cover the upgraded door, but they should cover something.
Also, that if all your financial info has been comprimsed, you might want to put a temporary fraud victim statement on all 3 of your credit reports. I know it's another hassle, but I have seen too many awful cases of identity theft.
That really sucks to hear. Sadly we had an almost break in happen last night here in Los Lunas. We got a call from ADT saying our motion detector had been set off. We got home and no one was there. We think that they were trying to get in our doggie door and they set off the alarm.
About your door, if it's a sliding glass door, I believe that Home Depot sells them (at least online).
I already have the fraud alerts set up. that was loads of fun!
The insurance co didn't send anyone out. Which surprised me. I think I'm going to put Nikhil on door replacement detail. I handled all the financial and computer stuff, so it's his turn now.
