Has anybody here ever done it? Do you know how long it takes? Do you know the best route to take?
DH's grandma had a bad heart attack and is refusing surgery (they're suggesting triple bypass), so we are driving up Thursday night or Friday morning for a few days... I'm not looking forward to a long drive- my back really sucks right now- BUT H hasn't spoken with his grandma in 10-ish years (Loooonngggg story- has to do with his parents and siblings, etc...)... and he really wants to go see her and his grandpa.
Don't worry about tomorrow. After all, today is the tomorrow that you worried about yesterday. Take each day as it comes...one at a time.

Re: Driving to Portland :(
I'm so sorry to hear about his Grandma!
I think you can take the 5 all the way up...but you'll want to verify that on mapquest or google maps. It takes about 7 hours to get to the Bay Area from here so I'm guessing it will take at least that same time to get to Portland.
I just checked google maps and you can take the 5 all the way up and the time is 15 hours and 20 minutes.
That's a LONG drive...
I was JUST mapquesting--- 15 hours = scary!!! I can hardly sit from here to Vegas (3 hour straight shot- 3.5 hours if we stop at the Mad Greek and re-fuel just in case- as we always do
). I've driven to Hearst's Castle (about 5hours ish)- but that was pre-back injury. I'm officially scared.
But I'm totally about him seeing his grandparents- I would hate to live life with the regret that I never saw them when I had an opportunity- and since its been 10 years- he has some catching up to do.
Thanks for looking it up Lori--- I've gotta find hotels, lol.
