House hunting Follow up

I know that looking at a house is supposed to be fun, but I am NOT having fun. We really want a house that is older, when I say older here we're talking 100+ years old. The two that we looked at yesterday were just not feasible for us right now and I was so dejected. We can't get into another that is currently our top pick till the weekend. There are several new construction that we can afford, but I don't want to give up on an older house.
Words of encouragement are greatly appreciated because right now I'm feeling defeated.

  • Aww MT I hope you guys find something soon! It's so hard when you want an older home. The character is great but so often they come with a lot of work. If that's what you have your heart set on then don't compromise. It might take a little longer but it will be worth it to get what you really want! House hunting can be frustrating but just think about how wonderful it will be to have a place that is all yours.

  • Hang in there! You'll know 'your' house when you see it.
  • I have totally been there and it sucks.  The best advice I can give is that there IS a house out there for you.  I know you guys would like to move sooner rather than later but I promise that patience will pay off in this situation.  Try not to get too discouraged.

I would suggest sitting down with YH and making a list of things that are really important to you in a home.  Things like location, size, # of beds/baths, yard, etc.  You might have to compromise on some of them in the end but I promise when you walk into "your home" you will know it.

Something else to consider is maybe finding a new realtor?  I don't know the situation up there at all but our realtor was VERY proactive.  When we wanted to see a house, she got us in there within 2 hours.  She was there to make a sale and she would do whatever it took to make us happy.

  • We found a house that we both love, but it's REALLY small. It's also over 150 years old, and I'm afraid that renovations will be limited. We'll see, we've figured out a way to add an additional room which would make the place perfect for us.

  • There is a house for every buyer, and it can seem like you'll never find anything. You will! You guys are going to find something that is absolutely perfect for you, your H, and your new little addition!
