Name change issues

In Texas, when you go get your driver's license, they don't have the license-making machines at the stations, so they give you a temporary paper license and you wait for your real license to arrive in the mail.  So I changed my name with them mid-July and went home to patiently await my new license.

Well, apparently they're updating the machines and it's now taking 4-6 weeks to get your license in the mail, but I spoke with someone yesterday who had been waiting 8 weeks and still hadn't received it!  I need to go get some special work credentials, and I need my license in my new name to do it, and this whole ordeal is holding me up.  The State of Texas drives me nuts.

Anyone else still having name change issues?

Re: Name change issues

  • It look me 2 months to get Nissan to send me a copy of the title for my car (they're the lienholder on my car). It was the biggest pain. First they told me to fax in a request for a name change form. 6 faxes and 4 phone calls later, they actually sent one. But, that's not good enough for the Rhode Island DMV. They need a copy of the title, which took me being incredibly rude to the woman on the phone for 15 minutes before she would mail me a copy... 2 weeks later. Glad it's finally over.

  • Car registration and title!  Ugh!  Will this never end?

Oh, and it looks like I get the pleasure of purchasing a new title for Texan vehicle for $28.  Shouldn't this be free?

  • You would think it should be free. I ended up paying $56 to change my name on my registration after all that. Crazy, since I already own it and had to pay the $56 to renew my registration a month before we got married...
