8 - 10 weeks for 1st appt???
All you other pregnant ladies when did you have your first appt with OB/GYN?

Re: 8 - 10 weeks for 1st appt???
I think that is about normal for OB offices according to my friends.
I had my general practice (naturopathic doctor) confirm with a blood test right after the BFP. I also wanted her to check progesterone levels asap.
After we selected a midwife (met with 3 informally to make sure we selected one we hit it off with) she set up my first appointment right away at 7 weeks, although she said people normally don't start until 8-10 weeks.
Also I could have opted to have a dating ultrasound at any time since my cycles are so off, but I was sure of my O date so I declined.
Cerclage placed @ 21w6d due to CI (IC)
My first real appt. with an exam and u/s was at 7 weeks. I did go in right after my BFP to confirm the pregnancy with a urine test and they did some blood work, took my weight and BP, etc.
So 8-10 weeks is not out of the norm. Hang in there, they will FLY by!

I haven't had the chance to tell you yet, Heather, but CONGRATULATIONS!!!
The public hospital that I'm going to has a list so long that they usually don't see you until you're like 16 weeks or so....which is crazy! However, it's the leading hospital in Victoria for having a baby in and the waiting lists are long...I hate it because I feel like a number there.
Lisa, do what I did with both my pregnancies. Tell them you're not exactly sure of your dates and ask for a date scan.
I would, but I'm going to a GP/OBGYN, not a public hospital, so I see the same person every time...and my doc knows my nature and personality well enough to know that wouldn't be true. :-P
I briefly considered going to the hospital in a couple of weeks and saying I was having horrible cramps and/or spotting, but that's not something I want to put out in the world, you know?
yep that is the norm. I had my first ob appt at 9wks
I did have betas drawn immediately though, since we dealt with IF, for my peace of mind

They took me at 7 weeks, but I was surprised too! I was thinking, I'm pregnant - clearly there are things I need to know, right??? I know some people who waiting until the 12th week before their docs would see them.
Right. About norm. I think we went in at 7 or 8 weeks. This would be one of the many things that you must WAIT for in pregnancy..... See my blog post on Pregosaur about waiting. Because, see, now I am waiting AGAIN. It never stops.......
And, sorry, but it does not FLY by......... I hated to wait and so I think I made DH call our OB/GYN and get us in earlier. So instead of 9 weeks we got in at 7 weeks or something. Plus I called like every day with questions, so I think they just wanted to get me in and calm me down. LOL.
