Sorry it took me awhile to get back to you.  Feel free to ask any questions about vacuums, it's been my thing to research for about the last 6 months.  Or as DH likes to say, I just need something to research insanely at all times.  It's amazing the different brands that are out there that doesn't publicize but are so great.  Surprising, most reviews and every vacuum store in PA and MD that I went to does not recommend Dyson at all, they much prefer brands like SEBO, Miele, Riccar, Aerus (split from Electrolux), Rainbox, etc. and my research led me to the same conclusions.  These brands also come with much longer warranties.  My mom's Aerus Lux Guardian has a 25 year warranty.

Our main issue is trying to find a vacuum that is good for carpet, hardwood, and tile.  Usually uprights are considered better for carpet, but worse for flooring like hardwood, then canisters are preferred, especially if there are both types of flooring.

In PA, I looked at these stores:

L H Brubaker Appliances, Inc.
5303 East Trindle Road
Mechanicsburg, PA 17050
Phone: (717) 796-0150

Todays Home & Leisure
5202 Simpson Ferry Road
Mechanicsburg, PA 17055

Discount Vacuum
45 Gateway Drive
Mechanicsburg, PA 17050

Discount Vacuum (I only went to the Mech store)
3873 Union Deposit Rd
Harrisburg, PA 17109

Good luck with your search!

  • Thanks so much for this info! I've actually read the same thing about the Dyson vacuums and was surprised that Consumer Reports doesn't really recommend them.
