We are holding an evening GTG for Alexis's Baptism from 7:00pm - 9:00pm on a weeknight(it's a long story). Since most people will have already had dinner at home, we're thinking of just serving appetizers and cake. There will be about 30 guests( 20 adults and 10 kids).
This is what I have so far I have:
artichoke dip with pita chips
ham and swiss/turkey and provalone party spirals
Fruit kabobs with cinnamon cream cheese dip
devilled eggs
2 left over tiers from the baptism cake
I'm thinking that I'd like to serve maybe 2 or 3 more appetizers. I'm looking for some really easy to make and tasty appetizers. Does anyone have a recipe or idea that they use as a regular standby for their buffet style parties. Also, since both DH and I aren't working right now, we'd really like to keep the cost down if possibe. The dinner for the Godparents is already costing us a small fortune!
TIA
Re: XP : Baptism party menu ?
fruit kabobs sound like a great idea!! never seen that before.
For parties at my house I've often done veggie platters, which are cheap to make if you don't mind cutting some veggies, with dip.
Also I like making nacho dip (salsa, cream cheese, sour cream & cheese) with tortilla chips
You can also find pretty inexpensive shrimp rings.
That sounds like a great menu. I'd probably add a veg/dip plate and that's it!
And... this means that the baptism stuff got sorted out! I'm so glad.
There are two dips that I make almost always!
1) Veggie platter - Carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, green pepper, mushrooms (all raw) I cut them into bite or 2-bite sizes
Dip:
1 ? cup mayonnaise
1 cup sour cream
? package of onion soup mix (you can add more but I think it?s enough)
2 tbs of bacon bits
Mix all together and serve in a dip/bowl
2) This one is almost like a nacho dip but ?fresher? + no meat.
Chop up into bits ? tomato, green onion, green pepper
Handful of grated cheddar cheese or a marble cheese
1 ? cup mayonnaise
1 cup sour cream
In a semi-deep dish flatten down the mixed mayo & s.cream
Then layer on top of it the green pepper, tomato and then the g. onion
At the end add the cheese over top.
Serve with tortilla chips
HTH!
I agree with the ladies on veggie and fruit trays. If you make them yourself, they are very cost effective.
Also, Mel's suggestion of prosciutto wrapped canteloupe are also fairly cost effective and super yummy.
A super easy app that I do is buy a large round of brie or camembert and slice off the top rind. I then warm it a bit in the oven or microwave and top it with olive tapenade, red pepper jelly or chutney. I then serve it with breads, crackers and baby carrots.
A super easy dip that my friend always does is feta dip. Mix 1/2 c crumbled feta cheese with chopped fresh herbs (oregano, thyme, chives etc.), sea salt, and black pepper. Then add 1/4 c olive oil. Allow to sit for a few hours and serve with fresh veg and crackers.
A little something we served when DH hosted the stag here was you take a tortilla spread it with some flavored cream cheese, take a slice of wisteria ham or something along those lines and roll up, slice in half and they are not at all expensive, DH loved them as did most of the other dudes.
I also second the veggie platter, always a huge hit at gatherings.
