Have you heard about the issues with Yaz or Yazmin?

Apparently there is a super high risk of blood clots heart attacks and strokes on it. ? I just saw it on TV now. ?It's kinda creepy when the drug you used to be on is on a class action lawsuit commercial. ?I may have to google for more info!

Re: Have you heard about the issues with Yaz or Yazmin?

  • I haven't heard anything about it being any higher than any other birth control. Those types of side effects are attributed to the estrogen component, which is exactly the same in all hormonal birth control pills (ethinyl estradiol), but in slightly varying amounts (between 20mcg and 35mcg) - Yaz has the lowest amount (20mcg), along with Alesse, while Yasmine has a bit more, I think 30mcg. It's a listed side effect for all birth control pills, because it does raise the risk, particularly when a woman smokes and is over 35. The risk also has to be balanced with that of pregnancy, since the amount of extra estrogen a pregnant woman also increases the risk. I can't imagine there'd be much traction on a class action lawsuit like that.
