Tell me where to eat!

Good morning ladies!

My parents are coming to visit for the weekend and I'm wondering where we should take them for dinner? We really haven't ventured out to eat much yet so I'm not sure where to start!

We are open to pretty much anything....

Re: Tell me where to eat!

  • Chimes

    Copeland's or Copeland's Cheesecake Bistro

  • Take them to Mike Anderson's on Lee in Baton Rouge.  Best.Seafood.In.Town.

And you want them to have a good "Louisiana" experience.

  • My top choices would be:

    Cheesecake Bistro

    Zea's

    J. Alexanders

  • blech, I can't believe so many of you like the cheesecake bistro!  Their food is just not tasty I find...stuff I could make much better at my house for half the cost!

  • It's really hard to go wrong with any of the choices the pp mentioned. If you are taking the babes, I agree with the others. If not check out Juban's or Mansur's or Louisiana Lagniappe.

  • Where to eat in Southern LA could be a war, at least we have positive drama today! hehe

I'm not too much a fan of Cheesecake Bistro, EXCEPT their fried ravioli and they have a good roast chicken, but if you have out of town guests why would you go there? Go really traditional, there are WAY too many tasty options out to settle.

  • I am craving Italian right now so I would go with Little Village or Gino's.

I love Cheesecake bistro for dessert but not as much for dinner. PPs gave lots of other good options though.

  • I LOVE food discussions!  So I'm guessing that you want your parents to have some fairly authentic food.  In that case, Chimes or Chimes East (Chimes East is closer to you) all the way.  The food is excellent, it's kiddo friendly and the atmosphere is great.  Try the boudin balls, blackened alligator and seafood pasta.  You can't go wrong.

I'll also give Zea's a vote.  It's a rotisserie but they have very good food as well.  We love the Mediterranean hummus, breaux bridge pasta, any of the roasted chickens and the sweet potato bread pudding.  You must have the bread pudding!  So good!

How long will they be here?  Do you need recs for breakfast/lunch as well?  Are you guys looking to try a certain kind of food (steaks, italian, mexican)?

  • Shoe, you are making me hungry, ha ha!

Okay, don't laugh at me, but ALLIGATOR?? I am scared. ha ha....I've never had that before....although there are probably a lot of things I haven't had here before!

They will be here all weekend, so yeah breakfast/lunch recs would be great too! Mmm, mexican sounds good right now. Actually, so do steaks and italian!

  • I strongly reccommend going somewhere and eating family style. That way you can try many different things. Frank's on Airline or Prairieville are my favs for breakfast, but I'm sure many will say Another Broken Egg is the best. A.B.E. is definitely drool worthy.

All I ask is that you try it!  I didn't have it until I started dating MH 3 years ago and now I can't get enough.  I hate to say this but...it's kind of like chicken.  Also, Chimes East is a great choice for lunch.  They have sandwiches and such.

Steak--Sullivan's is a good choice.  Pricey but very yum.

Italian--I've heard Gino's & Little Village are great but I've never been to either.  My personal fav is DiGiulio Bros.  Veal Parmesan = Heaven

Mexican--La Carreta's or Superior Grill.  LC has a better queso.

Do you guys eat sushi?  If so, Kamado's, Hello Sushi and Tsunami are all very good.

Breakfast--Cracker Barrel, Broken Egg Cafe, Christina's (it's downtown so kind of far but very good).  MT mentioned Mansur's earlier.  OMG, so good!  They have an excellent jazz brunch on sundays.  It's a nicer place but the food is amazing.

You still have my number?  Feel free to call/text if you need anything while they are here!

  • I looooove Mike Anderson's fried alligator appetizer.  Can you tell I'm determined to push you to go there?  ;)

Also my favorite things on their menu are the Mike Special (shrimp in this delicious sauce that you dip your bread into) and the Joliet Rouge (fish covered with lump crab meat and mushrooms) and their stuffed potatoes and salads are great!

MA's is more of a "nice dinner with the kiddos" kinda place.  I also love the Chimes - get their spinach and artichoke dip, it's the best you will ever have.  Ditto Franks on breakfast too.

Anyone - has Coyote Blues opened yet?  I heard they did, if so that's a great Mexican place kinda with a cajun flair.

YES!  I saw the sign last week.  HOWEVER, I am reserved in sending people there just yet.  New places usually need a couple months to work out the kinks and I'm scared if I send someone there they will get bad service or something and then never trust my food judgment again.  And that would make me sad.

This is true.  Hold off for now, everyone!  Let the kitchen staff learn how to cook first!

I agree...Cheesecake Bistro and Copeland's are gross to me!

I'd recommend Mike Anderson's or Drusilla's Seafood. Both yummy. :)

  • Breakfast: Louie's (LSU Classic) and Another Broken Egg

Lunch/Dinner: Chimes (LSU Classic), Chimes East, Parrains. Those are some of my favorite Local LA joints.
