Poll: Style Me Please!

Okay, here's the deal...

I like having medium-long hair. However, for most of my life, I've had short hair (like, earlobes -- chin maybe). Once I grew it out for a while, then I had a really bad break-up and chopped it off (sort of a cleansing ritual, I suppose). Then I grew it out again for the wedding.

Here's where it is now:

This is the longest I ever remember having it:

That's maaaaybe 4-5 inches longer than it is now (it's hard to tell, I know, but I don't have a good picture).

Here's the dilema -- I love having my hair this long, but the reason you're getting two somewhat crappy pics is because once it gets this long, it's usually all ponytails, all the time. Why? Because it just sorta hangs there -- limp, lame, no real style. Now, I obviously still want my hair to be able to be pulled back, but I'm also just kinda tired of it being blob on top of my head.

So, here's the poll. Should I:

Re: Poll: Style Me Please!

  • I like you with the long hair! I voted for the trim -- have your stylist put some shape into it but not taking too much length off, let it grow, and run a flat iron through it, which should help show the cut more and keep it looking polished.

  • Before I vote... Realistically, how much time do you typically devote to your hair post-shower? Are you a wash and go kind of girl? Do you blowdry? flatiron?
  • I have the same exact dilema.  My hair is still long from the wedding and I don't know whether to trim or go short...  When it's long I don't do anything with it.

So yeah, I don't have any advice for you!

  • I'm usually a wash-and-go, but I will blow dry if necessary. I don't own a flat iron or a curling iron. They scare me. (Burning incidents...yes, that's plural...has made me shy away from them).

  • Yes, how much time do you devote to your hair?

What do you think about a wispy long bangs?

  • I voted to keep growing it. If you're a wash and wear type of girl, I think length lends itself better to your natural air-dried waviness. I say shoot for long layers. In the meantime, while you're waiting for it to get longer, have your stylist cut some layers into it to give it some dimension around your face. Make sure she knows that you don't usually blowdry.
  • I agree, I actually think longer hair is easier to maintain. I haven't blow dried mine since the day before the wedding. I just let it dry naturally. I love having short hair too though, but think I have to use more product/styling to get it right. Definitely keep the length but it get it shaped, it will feel like a new look! And then post pics.
  • I gotta argue the other way... if you are a wash-n-go girl, cut it shorter.  For me at least, maintaining/styling is a lot easier with shorter hair than long because there isnt enough natural curl in my hair to make it do anything but there is enough wave that it just looks bad if I dont blowdry it straight.  With it short, I can get away with a lot less.  You will have to get it cut more frequently though - long hair seems to grow out better between cuts.
