WWYD?

DH and I want to have the 3D u/s.

According to UC-BABY: the earliest we accept patients is 20 and the latest is 31 weeks. If you are looking to see more detail in the features/face, the optimal time is between 25 and 31 weeks.

Well I?d want to go at the ?optimal? time but my shower is planned for October 25 and that means I?d have the u/s only 2 weeks before. That?s not enough time to mail out invites, finish registering, buy party items etc. in Pink or Blue (my mom & MIL are throwing the shower and this is what they want ? a gender themed shower) I wanted to know 100% the sex of the baby before and since the u/s tech said it was 90% a girl...the odds look good but?!!!

(I confirmed over the phone that 22 ? 25 weeks is not much of a difference for the 3D u/s ? ?just a skinny baby. For GOOD pics of the features etc. go later on?)

So?do I have the u/s earlier i.e. 22/23wks so we?re sure on the sex before planning the shower?

Or

Have the shower under ?it?s a girl? & do the u/s later on to get the good baby pics?

I asked my mom and she said ?worse case scenario, you return what you got & switch it all for Blue! And while you?re at my house for 2 weeks recovering the guys can paint the room over etc.? DH isn?t much help like usual ?Well I guess if it?s wrong the boy will be wearing a lot of pink? ? BTW I want to hurt him right now Angry. He wants the good pics so is willing to have the shower and change everything afterwards. The thing is that most of the work would be on ME!

[sigh] I?m probably over thinking this?but I just want to be sure!  Crying

Re: WWYD?

  • If the U/S tech said 90% then I would base it on that.. i mean you are just confirming...
Plus... if you have the 3d u/s 2 week before if it isnt a girl then call people or have the mother's call ppl and tell them; as well then you can change registery in a night!

I think you are worrying too much!

  • I would just go and have it earlier. Who cares if the pictures aren't as "good" as they would be a few weeks later. Honestly, in a few months time when your baby is here you can take REAL pictures of her (him?) and I doubt you'll ever look at the u/s pictures again.

Then you can be sure of the sex for the shower and all will be good Party!!!

No more stressing, it's a long weekend (with the promise of no rain!) no stressing allowed.

  • LOL thanks ladies

  • If you want to go at the optimal time then I think it is still enough time, you are 90% sure that it is a girl so they can still plan and in the invite they can say, "gender will be confirmed 2 weeks prior to shower" and then whomever is doing the shower can send out a mass notification.  Also if I recall off the website they said that if for whatever reason they cannot confirm the gender they will reschedule you, so even if you went at the optimal time they might not be able to tell and have to reschedule you, just wanted to make sure you had all the options.  GL.

  • I think it depends on what you want the 3D u/s for. Do you want it to determine the sex of the baby or do you want it to get good pictures of the baby's features? Judge when you go based on what you want to get out of the appointment.

Did I read that right that you are going to spend the first 2 weeks at your mom's place after the baby is born? Do they live close by?

  • At UCBaby ou will be having a 3D U/S so I'm sure they will be able to confirm the sex for you even at the 22/23 week mark .  I had mine done by them at 23 week to confirm the sex and she had absolutely no problem doing so.  Our pictures were also very good at that stage.

So IMO have the U/S done early and then plan the shower.  Returning or exchanging gifts is a pain, especially if you are having a large shower.

They live 15 min away from DH and I but that doesn't matter because we wouldn't be 'living at home' for that time. In my family - we do this to help the new mother heal faster. This way she can rest when she needs to, shower, eat etc. and still be o.k for LOTS of visitors with her own mom's help & like DH and most dads they go back to work after 2-3 days max.

Sometimes the 'new grandmothers' stays at the new mom's house instead. It doesn't matter to me..my mom & MIL will both be helping us druing the first month. [my mom for 2wks & MIL for 2wks] I don't need to be home really, there isn't anything here at home that the baby can't get there at my mom's house.

    Bed - check
    Food - check
    Love - check, check.

We'll decide closer to the date if she'll stay with me or if I'm staying with her.

Did you get any help in the begining?

  • Would you husband stay at your mom's with you or would he stay at your place?

We didn't want any help in the beginning. Joe was home for the first 2 weeks which helped us bond as a family and then he shifted his work day so he can be home in the early afternoon to give me a break. So far it is working for us. The only thing we have slacked off on is mowing the lawn. It just isn't a priority. We do our front yard but our backyard takes over an hour to do so we have just left it the last month.

No DH would stay with me as well. It would be like we're living there. My parents have a 5 bedroom/2 with ensuite house so we have plenty of room and my mom has her own 'grandma's' nursery [winnie the pooh] set up in one of the guest rooms already (it was my aunts stuff from the last boy - 2 yrs ago. So we're 'passing it along" lol the full bedding/decor, crib, change table - my MIL is jealous she want to create her own 'grandma's' nursery too)

It's only my parents and bro living there so 3 rooms are empty. We'd get the larger guest room, near the nursery connecting to the bathroom. *But I doubt the baby would sleep there, she'd stay in her bassinet in our room*

If I have an easy labour & recovery *I WISH/HOPE* [i.e. vaginal no stitches etc.] I won't need the full 2 weeks but in case of a c-section I might like the extra help with food for DH, laundry, guests etc.

DH's job is't so flexible. Not working = no money. NO matter what it is - christmas, new years = not paid for. And at that time with the new baby and me at home with EI we'll need all the $ we can get, KWIM? You're lucky that Joe was able to do that and I'm sure he's happy spending time with Ben. DH doens't have that option.

And don't worry the lawn would be the last thing on my mind too! Wink

  • Wow that sucks that his job isn't flexible. How does vacation time work for him? Is he thinking about taking any paternity leave? Joe may take a few months at the end of my leave (I am not taking the full year). We are going to wait until the new year and then decide.
