Tell me about the Paddock Hills area
My husband and I just started looking at houses, today was our first trip out. We've lived in Cincinnati for a little over 3 years, so we're not familiar with all neighborhoods.
Could you tell me a little bit more about the Paddock Hills area (Westminster, Avon)? It seems like a nice neighborhood in a "not so nice" area. I want the good, the bad, and the ugly....please
Is it close to major grocery stores?
Re: Tell me about the Paddock Hills area
daves_sweetpea - that's what the Avon Rd / Westminster Rd area looks to be - historic neighborhood surround by a somewhat scary neighborhood.
Anybody else know anything about this little area in Paddock Hills?
I have good friends that live there. In many ways it's a great neighborhood. Affordable homes, a good community, lots of character, diverse neighborhood. But you are surrounded by some very poor/crime-stricken neighborhoods. I know my friend advises friends coming to visit not to take certain roads at night. I'm not sure if she's being overly precautious or not. That being said, they have a great house and really great neighbors and she's never had a problem with crime in her community. My own concerns about the neighborhood would be the schools (I don't know if there's a good magnet school it feeds into like Clifton does), resale values (I don't know about those one way or the other), and walkability (I prefer neighborhoods where I can walk to nearby restaurants and stores). That being said, in many ways, Paddock Hills is a great value for the money. You simply can't get the size and quality of a house for the small price in places like Hyde Park, Mt. Lookout, Clifton, or even Oakley or Pleasant Ridge.
I think it's largely a matter of what your personal tolerance level is, though. I live in Clifton and I know people who look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them I'm raising my family here and say they would *never* live in Clifton because of surrounding criminal activity. But then, again, I'd never want to live in the outer 'burbs. All a matter of personal preference.
Hmm...having lived here my whole life I also had never heard of that area until I googled it. Based on map location it does seem a bit iffy. I lived in Clifton previously so being near/around "sketchy" areas doesn't bother me that much as long as you're smart about things (ex: don't walk around at night by yourself). School district and resale as pp mentioned would be concerns for me.

I would not live in the Paddock Hills area. I have family that lives over there, and we always leave before dark if that tells you anything.
I can also tell you to stay away from Norwood. I grew up there- The cops are horrible, it's very trashy, and most of the people that live there are generations and generations...My mom once complained to a cop about a hit and run that happened near their house over there, and his reply was, "it's friday night everyone is drunk or high.." Ummmm yeah you dont want to live there.
What kind of neighborhood are you looking for, and on what side of town- east or west?
