Hi ladies!
I am a NYC resident but was married in Ohio. I've been searching all over the site trying to find out where to go first to legally change my last name to my husbands last name...to no avail. I've googled the question but came up with so many different answers.
Does anyone mind help pointing me in the right direction???
TIA!
Re: name change help!!!
The first thing I changed was my name on my social security card.
SSC info
From there you will change then name on your passport and driver's license. You decide which is more pressing to do first. When I switched to a NY driver's license I had to go to DMV and fill out forms - you will need your marriage license and the new social security card. The passport I think you can do through the mail. For almost all of these you need to send in your actual/original marriage cert. so make copies just in case. It took me a few months to change everything over. But all of the info in on the NY DMV website and the Passport info sites.
