Helped my friend paint all day Friday

My friend and her DH bought a new house that was previously home to an older couple who loved their pastels! lol The carpet in the living/dining room was a plum purple, the walls were a seafoam green. Brutally ugly! They desperately wanted to paint in there, it's the first area you see when you enter their home. Soooo, we set to work and WOW it looks amazing! I *wish* I had pics for you guys. They chose "Obsidian Glass" from C.I.L. for their colour. A very, very dark grey. The room seems twice as big, and you don't even notice the carpet anymore. If anyone is brave about colour, I would def recommend the one they chose. Gorgeous!

  • very nice of you to help out a friend!! how many coats did you need to do with that colour?

  • Just one coat (thank goodness).

that's impressive!! I have never been able to get away with one coat (EVER, with any colour over any colour).
  • I've never been able to do it with a Behr paint. But CIL and Benjamin Moore seem to have better coverage.
  • Ya CIL covers very well.  I have a dark purple room and I only used one coat.  It's amazing!

We actually used Benjamin Moore in our whole house [DH will not use any other]...and we didn't prime first either. We only did 2 coats in our bedroom due the covering the plaster patches other than that it's great!

And I LOVE the tester pots..lol

  • I can relate - our house was an artist palette - sea foam green living room and main floor, peach basement, one yellow in the kitchen, another yellow in the bathroom, a purple bedroom, a maple leafs blue bedroom and a blood red bedroom.

Yeah. Bad. I love grey as a paint colour!

  • I would have loved to seen a picture! I love the look of greys, but am always so afraid of what they'll look like.

Not that I have any more rooms that need painting right now... I love CIL paints, they always cover really well.

  • Yeah I use Benjamin Moore and it has covered well, I am pretty picky and I've only ever needed 2 coats. The one room we used Behr took 5 coats (red paint too, so that didn't help). Maybe I should pick up some CIL and try it out.

I can totally relate to the multi colour house too! And your house sounds crazy too Natalie! Our house has bright pink, bright blue, and the lounge was white with black & silver sponge painting, the basement is green & yellow sponge painting. The basement bathroom is pink and yellow sponge painting!!!
