Office ?Sick? Etiquette?!

So far today 3 different co-workers have come into my ?space? and they are sick! All with colds and go on and on about how sick they are blah blah blah?.Ummm HELLO people, pregnant lady here, I?d rather not get sick!

After one of them came to see for the 4th time and was sneezing and leaning over me to get to my tissue box - I had to interrupt him ??I?m sorry but could you please leave and send me an email or call me from your desk, I don?t want to get sick?.

The sucky part is that [I?m hoping it?s all in my head] but I?m feeling sicky?heavy head, I?ve sneezed like 8 times and I?m not hungry...DAMN these people!

I wonder if I should make a sign saying "if you're sick, finishing up being sick or think you might be getting sick - Go Away!"

I?m off to go get some O.J. ASAP?. Indifferent

Re: Office ?Sick? Etiquette?!

  • In our office people would tell you to "f-off" if you were spreading germs like that! Seriously. It's always been clear here that you shouldn't come here if you're sick, period.
  • When I was pregnant with DS this one guy came into work with a really bad cold and I went to my boss and said that if he didn't go home sick then I was leaving and would try to work from home.

My boss tried to convince him to go home but when he wouldn't, I left.

I just might have to do that with the coming months...You would think common sense kicks in but Nope!  Man I think my bottle of hand sanitizer is almost done and it's only 2:30pm...

  • Unfortunatly, common sense is not all that common anymore.

People seem to think that they are indispensible at work and don't realise that by staying home for one or two days they could save the company a lot of $ because otherwise the other 4 people who get sick may have to take longer, infect others, etc......

  • People really don't seem to get "sick etiquette." Why go to work and contaminate the rest of the staff?! seriously!
  • Work sent this out, maybe post this at your door?  I have another one I'm looking for: To limit the spread of germs and prevent infection:

Teach your children to wash hands frequently for at least 20 seconds with soap and water, and model the correct behavior. Use alcohol-based hand sanitizers if soap and water are not available.

Teach your children to cover coughs and sneezes with tissues, and be sure to model that behavior.

Remind your family to stay away from others as much as possible if they are sick. Stay home from work and school if sick.

  • This is the one I was looking for.

    What if I become ill?

    • If you or a family member becomes ill with these symptoms:
      • fever higher than 100.4? F AND
      • at least 1 of the following: congestion, cough, sore throat, joint aches, muscles aches, or weakness, contact your health care provider. Before going to the clinic or hospital, describe your symptoms and any possible exposure to sick people or animals, or travel to H1N1 flu-infected areas.
    • Notify your supervisor.
      • Do NOT go to work if you develop these symptoms.

What if I become ill at work?

    • Call your supervisor (do not meet in person) and report your symptoms.
    • If you work at a location with a clinic, call the clinic for further advice.
    • Stay away from other people, staff and visitors.
    • Put on a mask if instructed to do so.
    • Go home if so instructed.
    • Call your health care provider.

When can I return to work?

    • If you have had a flu-like illness, you can usually return to work (after obtaining clearance from your health care provider and employer) if you:
      • have fully recovered
        AND
      • been symptom free for 24-48 hours

What are the symptoms of H1N1 Flu?

Clinical symptoms generally are similar to seasonal influenza. Infected individuals report:

    • fever
    • cough
    • sore throat
    • muscle aches, headache
    • sudden breathing problems
    • other possible symptoms: diarrhea and vomiting

What is the difference between flu and a cold?

    • Flu symptoms are usually more severe than cold symptoms and can affect the whole body. Flu usually starts suddenly with high fever, chills, severe body aches, extreme tiredness, headache and dry cough. A person with the flu is contagious for 24 hours before becoming sick and for 3-5 days after becoming sick.
    • Colds are generally milder than flu and usually affect just the nose and throat. Colds begin slowly with a sore or scratchy throat, sneezing, and runny or stuffy nose; a mild cough develops a few days later. Fever is rare in adults and older children, and extreme tiredness is not a cold symptom.
