looks like I'm going back to work

I got a call from my our office manager today begging me to come back to work 2-3 days/ week.  It looks like they've already gone through 2 employees who were covering my Mat leave for me.   Since DH hasn't found work yet, he'll be able to stay on EI and be at home with Lexi while I work.   This will help out with the finances until I go back to my regular hours in January.

In a way, I'm excited about going back to work b/c I miss my co workers but I'm also having guilty feelings about leaving Lexi while she's still so young(especially since she is such a mommy's girl) :-( .

Re: looks like I'm going back to work

  • It's great but not so great at the same time. I can see why you'd be having mixed emotions.

    I'm happy for you that it will improve the financial situation! Plus think of how great it will be for your DH to have that time with Lexi, too. Those are two big positives!

  • Going back early must be such a mixed emotions kind of event. At least it's only PT so you can still get some good time with Lexi and so will your hubs!

  • Good news and bad new, huh?

     Glad it will help out with money.  I feel bad that you have to leave your little one though.  At least she and daddy will have some bonding time.

  • Of course it would be hard! But in the end it helps your family with the extra $ and you're not spending all your time away from her, KWIM?

    It's a bitter-sweet situation...[HUGS}

  • Adding to the others, my aunt had her first before one year maternity leaves.  Her husband is a paramedic so with his shifts he usually at home during the day with their daughter.  Those two are SO close, even now that she's 15.  It really helped them bond.

    Seeing them makes me think more men should take at least a couple of months of paternity when the child is older.

    Might not help you miss her less but hopefully it will help you feel less guilty.

  • That's a bittersweet situation. On the bright side, this will give DH a chance to really bond with her and have one on one daddy/baby time. And, it's only a few days a week so you'll still get plenty of time to be home with her also.
  • Awww Betty, I know that probably wasn't your first choice but it kind of sounds like you are irreplaceable at your work which has to make you feel good!  I am sure your little girl will be fine with Daddy.  You might enjoy getting out a day or 2 even though its starting back early.  Keep us posted!!
  • I went back to work when my son was 5 months- I know it can be hard, but it's a great chance for your hubby to stay home with the kids. My husband was also laid off and was able to stay home with our son until he was almost a year old. He really enjoyed it.
