Is this Dumb?

DH and I just moved to our new home in Fort Thomas.  We live on a lovely little cul-de-sac and we've met every neighbor.  It's an extremely tight-knit group of wonderful people.  They party together and have all kinds of fun things around different holidays.

Anyway, DH and I are going to be on vacation (thank God!) over Halloween.  The street all hangs out together and does a big shindig during trick or treat hours.

Do you think it would be stupid to ask our next door neighbor (we've met her several times now) to hand out candy for us?  I just don't want to be the scrooge's in the neighborhood on our first halloween!

Re: Is this Dumb?

  • I think it'd be a bit odd...wouldn't she want to hand out candy at her own house? I think if you let a few key people (the one you know/trust the most) know that you'll be out of town, then they'll understand why your lights are off that night. And they can maybe keep an eye on your house in case any kids get ideas about Halloween pranks.

  • I don't think it is odd at all.  I'm assuming you're going to ask them to hand it out and give them a bowl of your candy, not expect them to hand it out at your house.

We are never home for Halloween so we leave a note on the door that our candy is with the neighbors.  They've never had a problem passing it out for us.

  • I know when i went around years ago there would be people with two bowls out, stating that the other one was for the neighbor house which was dark. I suppose all you can do is ask someone and the worse thing is they say No.

  • I see this happen all of the time. Usually the neighbors have 2 bowls out one for their house & one for the other.
