I think I am interested in competing in a sprint triathlon, but not sure about it. I need to build up some courage.
I was doing some research and it is only a 20K bike, 750m swim, and 5K run. I can do all of these separately, but not one after the other as this is what I would have to work on. There is a mini tri that I found that is in the spring time which would give me enough time to prepare.
We are going to be joining the Y next month so I can do some training there in the early mornings especially swimming. There is a spin class that starts at 6am that would be perfect as well. I"m already up running at 6am twice a week now. I found a training schedule online that seems doable as far as length of training that gives me two days off a week. It would take about 6 hours a week total.
I would need to purchase a new bike and a performance swim suit instead of my fashion suits. This would be my Christmas present this year if I decide to move forward with it.
Competing in a mini-tri has always been in the back of my mind. Something that I wanted to complete off of my bucket list. So, if you have done one, any advice? Any good races to look into? Anyone have any contacts as far as a trainer to help with transitions from each leg of the race?
I'm nervous to begin, but I know once I start, I will feel good about it. I'm not concerned with time, just crossing the finish line
The other thing is that I know if I train I will be in the best shape of my life which would set us up perfectly for TTC again next summer and reduce our chance of getting pre-e. This is another reason for moving forward with it.

I've ALWAYS wanted to complete in a triathlon and did some similar research a few years ago. ?I've finished two marathons and thought this would be a good 'second' step. ?From what I found in talking to friends, there is a really good triathlon in Chicago (www.chicagotriathlon.com). ?It's one of the biggest in the nation. ?They also offer 'mini' marathons for those who want to go a shorter distance. I'm not sure what your background is, but, I would start out with a few runs if you are nervous about a triathlon. ?They also have 'teams in training' that complete races for charity. ?You may be able to find a group to train with! ?Good luck to you!! ?Let us know how it all goes!! ? ??
I'vereally wanted to do a triathlon for a while, but haven't gotten around to it. If you decide to do it, I would love to do some training together. I used to swim competitively, so I can help in that area. I am not the strongest runner, but I'm confident I could finish. I know there are a couple races a year out at East Fork and Miami U., but not certain of details.
There is also this alternative triathlong at Little Miami:
